    Anybody else ride motorcycles?

Its def the season so I wondered who & what you ride. How about: bike, miles, pix, trips this summer blah blah, I'll start. I have an 06 Kawasaki Vulcan, about 8500miles on it, didnt ride it much for the last couple yrs but I told myself (and the wife) I intend to ride the piss outta it this yr, so far this summer put about 2k on it, did a few poker runs and had a blast. Gonna try to do a few trips this summer but havent nailed anything down, thinking the Oregon coast though.

Will do a car thread later

this isn't my bike, but it is basically what it looks like, or did when i initially purchased it.

I'm from Oregon and the Oregon coast is beautiful in the summer. I've always liked this style of bike as opposed to the crotch rockets to. Id like to buy a Harley one day

I love em, I wanna get an ultra glide but the wife doesnt like the batwing fairing, I would put some 10' mini apes (whioch I did to mine) because Im 6-6. I still got a yr or so before I "upgrade" so we'll see.

Speach up if you ride a rocket too, I love those Im just to old to ride one lol

the advantage to having an old man's bike like mine is that you are very protected from the elements (rain/hail), much more so than most motorcycles. because of this, i can pretty much ride and have ridden "comfortably" in all weather types. I can ride farther and longer than most because of the comfort factor. My woman finds the back seat very comfortable, and actually rode with me to Sturgis (3 day ride, 1500 miles) one summer, and not one time did she ever bitch about the ride.
And i can haul a shit load of luggage. I added luggage racks on top of the tour pack and can put quite a bit on the outside as well.

It's funny. when i first got the harley, my buddies were like "why'd you get a geezer bike?" and then after a couple of summers of rides, and seeing how comfortable i was, with the 4 speaker stereo system (loud), and all the shit i can haul, slowly but surely, my buddies started getting "geezer bikes" too. didn't hurt that with all the engine mods i made, my bike was faster than theirs were too.

AGREED! My boys are split 50/50 with the young ones riding the rockets. "I can carve corners" ya but I can go 1000 miles and still walk to the bar with my lady with no prob.

I think kawigirl rides a rocket too, I can swear Ive seen that screen name on the bike sites

ok. point taken. how long can your woman on the back go and still be ready to party at the end of the day without being wiped out? my woman can go the full 8 hours/500 miles thing and not be saddle sore & ready to party after a shower.

I may be mistaken, but didn't kawi sell her m/c?

i went coast to coast (3,000 miles) in 3.5 days once on a kawi kz1000. jan 17 to the 21st, 1981. through the rockies in a snow storm.........

it's a long story, but i've never heard anyone ride that far, that quick, under such extreme conditions....

Sold my SV1000, had 5k miles on it. Still ride dirt bikes, but one day might get a cruiser, or custom build a bike if I ever live somewhere I can get more use out of it.

Little weekend hobby. Hand built from ground up. It an 1980 Honda 400. Not huge but lots of fun. I love the little rat. Currently working on a 74 cb750. Can't beat the durability of the old inliine 4 cylinders.

I have 2 Harleys and love them. I've had some rockets in the past and have been thinking about buying one again just for fun. Put 60K on a 2005 Fatboy before it was stolen last year.
    Currently have the following bikes.
    2010 Ultra Limited
    2012 Softail Fatboy

I think my longest 1 day ride was Daytona to New York in a day. About 1100 miles on my old Fatboy. I used to do 1000 mile days on a regular basis. NY>Sturgis in 2 days... Guess I'm getting old and lazy. I usually plan my road trips with no more than 700-800 miles in a day. Gives time to have a nice dinner and relax a couple of hours before going to sleep.

with the woman on the back max i'll go is 500 miles.

by myself, well, i don't put a particular number on it. I'll just go until it feels like it's time to stop, or someone else feels the same way. It usually doesn't go over 700 miles or so.

tell you what tthough. after 3000 miles in 3.5 days, I REALLY felt strung out at the end.

    What's the proper PmCT protocol?

60oz Ale per day for 3 days
8oz Scotch per day for 3 days
    ?

1st night = party it up w/ yer buds on the other side (yeah! i made it!!!)
    2nd day/night = rest (don't fuk with me)
3rd day/night = rest (see #2, but not as much)

that much riding is almost like a zen thing. you have alot of time to be "in the zone" where you are not thinking, just riding. so it changes you a little

i"ve rebuilt 3 times a kz1000. 2nd time only toook a weekend for a complete engine rebuild. last time i had access to two kz1000's and none ran. so i cannibalized the best of both parts, did a quick rebuild, and ran that bike for another year and a half.

the kz1000 was a workhorse, and easy to work on.

Yeah. Those are rad bikes. I'm dying to get my hands on one of the old kz750's. Those were the beast back in the day. Inline 3 cylinder 2 STROKE!! It would have to be an insane balls out ride.
