Anyone here thrown yogurt into their protein shakes?

I was thinking about what good ingredients to throw into a high-cal homemade protein shake earlier and I thought about chucking yogurt into it. Has anyone tried this?

I'm planning a bulk cycle soon, and normally I throw one home made high cal protein shake into it to assist in bumping my calories, but I try to still keep everything clean and wholesome. I was thinking that among the other things I normally throw into it (banana, coconut milk, oats, etc.), that plain flavored low fat yogurt in a strawberry flavored shake might be good (and a good way to get probiotics while i'm at it too).

Cool. Never thought of that. I add a couple table spoons of olive oil and flax seed (some times chia seeds too for energy & antioxidants). The oil and flax gives the shake a nutty and grainy texture and adds some clean calories and fats to the shake and is pretty decent.

Try switching it up to coconut milk! I now use a teaspoon of coconut milk blended into my shake (with water), and it gives the shake that nice rich texture you get with cow's milk, only without all of the sugars that come in milk. Coconut milk and/or coconut oil is rich in EFA's as well.

I'm going to give my yogurt idea a whirl, should change the texture of the shake quite well also.

I say yogurt when bulking because I avoid dairy in general when cutting. It gives a softer look.

Yogurt, especially flavored, is full of sugar. It is great for flavoring. As long as it fits in your macros and goals, go for it.

It gives shakes more flavor with a creamier texture.

Coconut milk is also something I love. It adds good fats and is much better than cows milk.

I use almond milk at night with my peanut butter smoothie. Makes for a decent snack at night. I add 1-2 scoops of protein powder, 2 tablespoons of PB (sometimes raspberry jelly - cane sugar sweetened, no high fructose corn syrup). Delicious. I rarely use regular milk for anything any more.

How much coconut milk do you usually consume? I have only just started using it about a week ago since I randomly discovered it as a good fat source. I've been mixing it in with my oatmeal throughout the day and having it at night with my last meal of the day (1 teaspoon in my oatmeal about 3-4x a day and 1 teaspoon at night).

The stuff is pretty calorie dense and fat dense. I think on the can I have it says per 1/4 cup there is 14 grams of fat and I THINK 150 - 200 cals.

How much I consume varies. Some days I use more than others. I just base it on my macros. I use almond milk as well because it is not quite as calorie and fat dense.

I have unsweetened plain almond milk and its something like 2.5 grams of fat and 30 calories per cup

Wow I did not know that! 30 cals per ONE CUP eh? I am going to have to run out and buy some almond milk and see how that is. Sounds like I can use more of that without the extra cals I may not want or need.

There's also almond milk-yogurt too. Harder to find but it's out there. Easier to find in some of the organic type stores.

Exactly. I use it more often while cutting or when I want more volume of milk with less calories

Plain Greek yogurt is best. The protein is high and it smooths out the shake.

Better than I expected!!! I was going to add almond milk to the shake as well but I just threw back an 800 cal steak before the shake. Only reason I had the shake was because I was still hungry after the steak!!!!!!

Too many cals before bed but I hate going to bed hungry.

Yea you read my mind, I'm using almond milk too! Mainly cause I had a horrible sinus infection w/allergies, since cutting dairy out has made my life a lot better, I'm not congested all day.
I just did a dymatize vanilla casein shake w/ vanilla almond milk, Ezekiel bread with raw honey and almond butter! Great night cap!!

I started using coconut milk also in my shakes. I bought a blend tec blender and I throw so much shit in my shakes now bc this blender breaks down everything.

Makes shakes taste so much better

I have mixed in greek yogurt and love it! I have also mixed in a teaspoon or so of jello (the powder) I always use vanilla protein powder. That way I can add whatever flavor jello I want to keep in from getting old. Sugar free of course! And I have added both at the same time. A strawberry yogurt protein shake is the best. Reminds me strawberry cheesecake ice cream.

Not in mine....although I told my new trainer about it and I got reamed on the carbs! Lol

Guess I'll have to keep the yogurt inclusion to a minimum and do it in AM or before 4PM when I typically pull out carbs for the day.

Whipped up some high protein pancakes for breakfast from a recipe I found:

    -oatmeal
    -egg whites
    -protein powder
    -cinnamon
    -baking soda

A little runny at first but cooked up nicely. Ate them straight up no syrup. Damn tasty!

GODDD I really need to invest into a blendtec blender! I have gone through about 3 or 4 blenders over the last 5 or 6 years. And they were all nothing to rave about (and I didn't buy the cheapo ones either).

Sounds like the magic bullet (the blender not the clit stimulator!!!). I break those blenders about every 30 days. Piece of crap!!!!!

    Mine is 800 cycles deep

It makes soup hot and makes ice cream too.

Not, too expensive if you look around.

Switched up to Greek yogurt today. Carbs are lower, protein higher, 0 fat. Increased the density of the shake significantly. Good stuff!

I'll PM it to you. I pulled it from my Anabolic Cooking book. Lots of good recipes in there all written by pro lifter.

I love adding it in my smoothy with also 1 banana, handfullfrozen berrys and 2-3tbs of prenutbutter, fill with water or milk and blend. (50-75g protein I add in too)
