I'll be back in the States around mid-August, and I would like to go check out the music scene in Austin while I'm there. Does anyone know where I can find event schedules in Austin (mainly sixth street where most of the live music takes place)? I realize August is a ways away; just looking for information on event dates now so I don't have to worry about it later when the time gets closer.

Also, have any of you ever hung out or gone to live music events on sixth street? If so, did you have a good time? Where else are some cool places to go in Austin?

Moved away a few years back but that's what I heard. A guy I used to know owns a bar over on 8th, Room 811 or something. For country I guess the Broken Spoke up on Lamar (maybe?) but just pick up a Chronicle at any store and go from there really. Have fun!

I was in Austin this weekend for the first time. They had some track and field event and 6th was shut down. Then they had police buses lined up ready to arrest loads of people I guess... I didn't stay too late, and I tried to avoid all the aggro shit.

Pretty cool little city, since you're into blues and whatnot. San Antonio has more art though, and more metal. San An is only about 1 hour south of Austin, may as well check both cities out while you are in Texas. Enjoy the hot beachless weather!

If you want some good beaches, head to Treasure Island, or Siesta Key in Clearwater, Bradenton area... or St Petersburg/Tampa area. Hot bitches there too, but they wear teeny weeny bikinis!

If you are into Rock and Country check out The Mean Eyed Cat which is a Johnny Cash Tribute bar....The Broken Spoke, Jesse Dayton, Dale Watson, and 2 Tons of Steel Play there all the time. Feel free to msg me around that time you're down and I can let you know of the go downs around town so you can avoid the typical scenester cock rock crap that ALWAYS seems to be the first thing people run into lol.

Well your Austin trip is right around the corner. Pretty much anything up and down 6th street is going to have live bands playing any variation of music. My suggestion. Start at a bar. If you don't like it, walk right next door to the next bar. And so on and so forth. I will tell you though, that 90% of the women there will only even show any remote interest if you look like a ***** homeless hipster douchbag. If you look like you have your shit together and can pay your bills and have nice stuff and don't live with your parents most women aren't going to give you the time of day. I don't know why but.. I travel a lot and I usually am able to get laid anywhere and everywhere I go but I strike out more in Austin than everywhere else. On the flipside, Australian and Canadian women practically tear my clothes off before I can even get them out of the club or bar. lol. Either way, Austin can be a very fun place. One of my best friends works at a place called Lavaca St Bar. It's a pretty good place to start the night if you like sports bars.
