Does Cutting Out Sugary Snacks Worsen Your Memory.

    Hey guys

So, I've been on a diet for the past 2 years, trying to avoid sugars, sodas, candy, chocolate, starches, bread products and I noticed that I do have great results for my looks, because I lost 60 lbs but at the same time my memory has a negative impact, even though I take omega 3, multivits, veggies, etc.

And also if you briefly consider anecdotal evidence: how many scientists do you see that are in great shape with big guns? Zilch zero nada. Look I have enermous respect for guys that are in great shape but at the same time they all tend to be far from the sharpest knife in the drawer.

So the question is: by working out and eating clean do we in essence sacrifice our brain capacity to gain the ability to increase our looks, because we are depriving it from the sources of easy glucose, by cutting out sugary foods?

^^ now thats funny dude! and i bet a lot of guys on here mite take offense to ur statement j/k

seriously though while there may or may not be a connection between sugar and memory/brain function (i havent researched it so this is just my opinion) i seriously doubt it accounts for the observations u made in the OP. im no genius but i consider myself to be a fairly sharp person (when i feel like it). and i know a lot of smart guys rite here on this forum.

also from what ive read ur brain needs zero dietary carbs to function. the body can produce its own energy for brain function. its called ketosis. chek it out.

so to answer ur question (IMO) NO we do not sacrifice brain function for aesthetics...

wow this is a NEW question... i would be shocked as sh!t if anyone shows some research confirming this...I would seriously research the research lol

no, I have never heard of such a thing.
If your having serious memory problems I would seek medical attention, it couls be something very serious that can be med treated if caught early ~ good luck/ take care

I don't believe that sacrificing sugar leads to lack of brain function IMHO.......
    Now what's the question ?

I'm betting you are using those fake sugars. I don't care what anyone says, fake sugars make me spacy as hell. Get off that fake stuff if you are on it.

    two things.

there are many professionals here that have careers that emphasize brain over brawn, self included. So the notion that intellectuals cannot lift weights and body build seems misplaced.

stimulants and sugar do increase cognative ability in the short term. many many med school students get addictied to amphatemines as it drastically improves their ability to study and take tests. when i sat for the CPA exam, my doc prescribed two tabs of amphatemines, although i really needed 4.

i suspect that since bodybuilding/weightligting improves the vascular and cardio systems (usually), then this would help keeep a person sharp as they age. Opposite of you suspicions.

From my new understanstanding the brain does need carbs in the blood to function well but when all carbs have gone the body will run on ketos to keep the brain functioning, its a primative survival mechanism. But running on ketos does limit the efficiency of the brain. So id say cutting out all carbs (complex or not) will as you say have a negavtive effect but the recomended carbs level per day to stay out of ketosis is 50-60g. During my early dieting I cut out carbs almost completely and it took a few month to get into what i now know to be ketosis state.but even with minimal carbs i was still functioning very well in a mentally demanding job so id strongly disagree with your question up until ketosis stage is reached then I'd agree with it.

Also, what do you think happens when these guys are on a bulking diet? Do ya think they suddenly turn in to Albert Einstien on steroids for a couple of weeks? :-D

Actually according to the new info I just read up the decrease in memory may be attributed to low t. It all makes sense now that I connect the dots, fem physique, high pitched voice, low sex drive, low body hair, memory failures, looks like all I need all this time is a jolt of test to keep me going!
