    Lower back problems

One of my legs is about 1 1/2 inches longer than the other. It caused me to get blurry vision, headaches and some back pain from my late teens. Probably one of the reasons (apart from a shit diet) why I didn't put on any weight in my twenties was because I couldn't do squats or deadlifts.
Mainly because I didn't go and see a chiro or Chinese doctor unless there was a problem.

I got myself a great PT a while back who got me doing squats and deadlifts and I was not too bad. Because I was on cycle it helped me build a very basic strength level with those two exercises and keep me injury free. Once I finished my cycle I had pretty bad back pains for a few weeks or so.

Since then I've been spending more time and money trying to get on top of the problem. I started out by seeing a chiro twice a week for the first couple of months, then I dropped it back to a weekly thing and now I go once a fortnight. After doing an X-ray I was told I have vertebral subluxation complex. There's no calcification, the joints are just out of whack. I saw a Physio for a month who helped get some more movement in the problem areas. I have also been getting massages which has been quite helpful. They use acupressure which even my chiro said has helped my back health. I also occasionally see a Chinese doctor for cupping and acupuncture. My chiro says my back health is much better, spine is straight and I'm on the mend. The problem is that the pain hasn't gone away.

I am starting another course next week and would like to do some light squats and deadlifts but don't want to go through the pain at the end of my course and risk having a bigger problem in the short or long term. I will see the Chinese doc at the start of the course to get some pain relief and alternate between the chiro and massage every week through the course. I am worried that won't be enough and was wondering if anyone has any good ideas on what else might help.

I don't do anywhere near enough core work which would probably help a lot. It's quite weak which probably doesn't help the situation. I am doing a few stomach crunches and a couple of exercises every week or two which really isn't good enough. I will also try and do more stretches and martial arts and hope that helps.

    I'm 35 years old
Weigh 200-205lb with about 10-12% body fat.

Sorry its such a long post. Any help will be appreciated.

First let me qualify by saying I have no knowlege of the ramifications of heavy lifting in one with one leg shorter than the other.

That said though I do agree with your own conclusion that doing core work will be your best friend. I had 3 ruptured vertebra 25 yrs ago and core work is the only thing that has allowed me to live a fairly normal life.

Hopefully someone on here may have definitive answers, maybe using a mat on one side to raise the short side to bring the pelvis as close as possible to parallel to keep the vertebra inline during squats and deads may help to lessen pain?

Yeah my PT got me using a small weight to keep one foot higher. I am starting a sus course this week hopefully. I will work hard on my core to make sure it's as strong as I can make it and just keep seeing my chiro, masseur and Chinese doc. I am also thinking that an inversion table might be a good investment.

    1) you need to see an orthotic speciialist to get a specialized shoe or insert to help level you up. 2) stop doing direct ab work like crunches and replace with a plank called "ISO AB PLANK". 3) Don't waste your money on accupuncture. 4) martial arts is only going to make the problem worse. 5) you need to stay on testosterone to help with back pain and core strength. 5) I would do to a local pain clinic and see what kind of meds that can be used to help you control your pain. 6) the Chineese doctor is a waste of time and money. 7) squats and dead lifts is going to make the problem worse not better!

Is your pain in the lower back or lower back and leg?

    Thanks for your advice.
I've heard you're the lower back guru on here.
The first thing I am going to do is get myself some orthotics and give them a go.
My pain is in my lower back but isn't too bad.
When I get injured though its a different story.
    Thanks again.
I will get to work on your advice and see how I go.
Hopefully my cycle will start Friday...

If you can get by without using new generation anti-es with the testosterone it will give you more pain relief. Holding water is a good thing when it comes to back pain.
