Anybody in the Tampa/St. Petersburg/Clearwater Beach/Largo FL area?

We're seriously considering moving... been in Jersey my entire life and it's just too damn expensive to stay here living how we do/want to. We're looking at the areas in the title since we have family there (Largo specifically), but also thinking about building a new house in Ellenton.

Anybody in the area that can give me the good, the bad and the ugly?

Is that for sure the area you are interested in? I've been all over the state, love it all, but the panhandle is my favorite. The beaches are beautiful. As long as you arent directly in the tourist towns, it is wonderful. Port St. Joe, Navarre, Apalachacola, etc. Wonderful towns and very close to bigger cities.

Hey Buddy. Yep, i've live in Tampa and St. Pete. What exactly are you looking for? Do you prefer close to big city or suburbs? Does location to the beaches matter?

Tampa's very spread out w/it's share of beautiful communities. I would recommend looking into North Tampa or far east Tampa like Brandon/Fish Hawk area. In North Tampa check out New Tampa, Carrollwood and east Temple Terrace. Even more north would be Lutz and Wesley Chapel. But those locations are maybe 40-50 minutes from downtown.

In St. Pete stay away from downtown. It's too crazy. But you can find a nice place that's very affordable. But you'll need to get some security of some sort set up. Crime is a little crazy down there. I recommend the suburbs for sure. I found a nice house in Reddington Shores when i was there. 4 minute walk to the beach. And you can leave your door open all night long without worry.

Largo's cool too. Inever lived there but worked there. Nice area and kinda centrally located. I think crime and BS going on over there is very minimal. Mostly industrial area if i remember correctly.

Don't move to the near west side of Tampa. The Latin Kings are there and they are crazy! Far west would be ok out towards Tampa Downs. I had 2 friends i worked out with and both of them got held up at gun point from those punks. Just stay away from that area. It looks nice but just drive thru. Don't stop. You'll see em on the news when you move.

Let me know if there's anything else i can help with.

Definitely suburbs. Close to the beach would be preferable, but I'm also looking for affordable - so yea, something in between I suppose.

Meh... I grew up 10 mins outside of Newark NJ and 30 mins from NYC... I can handle any city.

Definitely wouldn't buy in Tampa, just that general area. More likely Largo, assuming we don't go further south to Ellenton. Re: the Latin Kings - yep, we have em' here too. They've been around a long time... fckers just won't go away. We're stuck with MS-13 around here who make the Latin Kings look like boy scouts, lol! But yea - I don't fck with gang shit... I'm a family man looking to live a quiet, uneventful life.

I'll tell you one thing - if/when I move, we need to link up and train together at least once!

Do you know anything about Ellington?

Well then you're looking towards Pinellas County. That's the St. Pete/Largo area. If you want to be close to the beach w/minimal BS. But it's a little more expensive, obviously.

Check out Dunedin. That's a great place to start.

Unfortunately, i don't live there anymore. I miss the hell out of it but i had to move to be closer to my family. But i will ask you to check out Powerhouse Gym on N. Florida Ave in Forest Hills in North Tampa. It's the best gym that i've seen and been a member to! Pro's, amatuers, Powerlifters including comps go on at that place. It's freakin sweet. A must check out in my book if you're in the area.

I lucked out when i found my house in Reddington Shores. And there's a lot more areas on Gulf Blvd. like Madiera Beach, Pass a Grill, Treasure Island, that you might be able to find something. and you'll basically be right across the street from the beach. doesn't get much nicer than that.

No, sorry, i don't know anything about Ellington.

lol... probably all the more reason I WON'T step foot in there... cause' i'm a fat little cvnt with little to show for all my efforts. They'd laugh me right out of a gym like that. Tis' why I won't step foot in Diamond Gym right here in Maplewood NJ either: http://diamondgym.pro/

And used to live 10 mins from it.

    No problem buddy!

Maybe Google this: Gulf Blvd, St. Pete/Clearwater Florida.

That's the main drag that stretches across north and south through all the communities. And there's several. And you can always branch out from there.

If there's anything else just let me know.

GB, that link you sent is cool. But to be honest, that gym looks like an LA Fitness compared to the Powerhouse i told you about. They don't even have a website. You either know about the gym or you're in the dark. The most hardcore gym ever. You'd fall in love wthe place. Guaranteed!

lol maybe so.. but it's pretty fcking hardcore nevertheless. Lots of pro's train there, they're way involved in the circuits. It's the only one of it's kind... not a chain or anything like that. Just a good old school hardcore GYM (as opposed to a 'fitness center').

Thanks for the comparison though... now I DEFINITELY won't step foot in this Powerhouse lol!

That's understandable. Ive yet been to an area I don't like in florida. Just don't go instate. Be close to water. Humidity and heat is brutal.

Dunedin and Palm Harbor for sure man!! Been here my whole life and can't ask for better. You have the beach a couple minutes away, a couple downtown areas, a couple great schools, and then Tampa or St. Pete just across the bridge.

Stay away from Largo, it's called Larghetto for a reason. Add to that Pinellas Park and Pasco as well. There are a couple areas to stay away from just like any city but keep asking and you will stay away from them.

haha..Never knew that Largo was like that. And i have a good friend that lives in Pinellas Park and i think his home is worth about 400,000. Nice place. And when you say Pasco, are you referring to Pasco county? Cause Pasco county is where Wesley Chapel is. Do i need to inform you that Tiger Woods, Chevy Chase, Madonna and a few others live in the area? Well, they might not "live" there but they do own property there.

Have a vacation home in Clearwater, but when it's rented out I stay at the Don Cesar on St.Pete Beach... Both Clearwater beach and St.Pete beach are beautiful...Theres also a small town called Gulfport which is surrounded by St.Petersburg which is very small and affordable, within driving distance to everything, 20 minutes to everywhere, including Tampa & Ebor...My favorite area however is Belair Bluff, it's basically a small strip of island in Clearwater, but the houses are enormous, the beaches are beautiful, its amazing for a 1 sq mile town...I don't know what your budget is, which is why I mentioned the different areas...Also an area called Pasadena within St.Petersburg, it's very nice but a little older, more your 'historical' motiff, its close to Treasure Island... I'd stay in those areas though, and be very careful about what parts of St.Pete you take up in, some of them can be extremely dangerous, as well as Pinellas Park (a town within Pinellas county), which is generally a shithole.
