TRT costs, doc prescribed and covered by insurance VS. going at it on your own.

Hello guys,

I am starting to get beat down here by the endos I have seen. All say that because I am low normal BCBS will not cover my trt.

I am leaning to go with lowtestosterone.com but just want to compare the #'s before I make the leap.

What are you guys seeing out of pocket(co-pay, blood work, testosterone and anything else that goes with the therapy) for those of you that are covered by your insurance.

Well I know my medical insurance will still keep covering the bloodwork. I guess more so wondering what the cost of the pins, test, hcg and any other anti E's they may prescribe.

Why would insurance cover you blood if you they wont diagnose you with hypo Hypogonadism?

I have had 3 this year that my doc approved and 2 of the 3(took the third this morning) was covered 100%, 100%.

That makes sense cause they were trying to diagnose you. If they wont cover your trt treatment why would they cover monitoring of your treatment?

insurance is cheaper than lowt imo atleast. insurance covers bloodwork, test cyp is cheap on insurance, and most insurance covers arimidex. hcg can be bought for 80 bucks and lasts 2 months...so 480 bucks per year

Dr visits need not be more than every 2 months so at a 50 dollar copay that's 300 bucks.
so 480 plus 300 is 780 plus maybe 200 per year for cyp? so 980 with really generous numbers.

if I didn't have insurance I don't think I would be on TRT. insurance costs a lot, but its not like I picked up insurance because I had low testosterone -- I would have had insurance anyways, so that is not an added cost. I see it portrayed in this light occasionally.

so, what do I pay out of pocket now? I'd say on average less than 20 dollars a month easily. Copays are 10$ which I don't need to fill every 30 days, and doctor visits are dirt cheap and seems to be 2-3 times a year now. blood work is covered 100%.

some men may be in a worse spot and desperate, but unless you have considerable money then the $2,400 a year that lowtestosterone.com costs is simply unaffordable to someone like myself, especially because their are alternatives. the hardest thing though is getting started. the patient is at the worst spot mentally and they are likely being screwed around by the insurance/medical games.

Most insurances wont cover the "speciality lab panels", HCG or arimdex... we cover all of the above as well as your testosterone cyp. Arimdex and HCG are covered by insurance for women because "on label" the medications are for breast cancer and fertility. It would still be cheaper if insurance didn't cover test cyp. Cyp is only $65 a bottle. You need 3-4 bottles a year depending. Insurance will still cover blood work. Needles are $10 for a box of 100 and syringes are the same.

Without insurance, I get bottle of test cyp at coscto for $65 (non member price) which last about 6 months and paid $35 I think for like 3 years worth of arimidex.

Blood work I originally got through kaiser but do all follow-up labs to dial in every 2-3 months through private md labs . Com for about $50.

Pins I get box of $100 online for under $15 shipped.

HCG I get over seas and constitute myself for $15 per 5000iu vial which last a good 5-6 weeks.

My dr visits cost $100 but I only have to see him twice per year and that is to basically show him my labs and get script refills and/or adjust if things look odd.

Cheap cheap cheap and I feel great :-D

Yes. That is not a scare tactic. It's the absolute truth. My gel will cost ~$500/mo. I will be knocking at your door. As it is, I just calclated everything and I pay over$1200/yr-gel, hcg, syringes, dr. visits and lab co-pays, e2 done out of pocket, shipping costs. I have great insurance, but it still adds up.

Well I just left another docs office. She fully agrees that my levels are low!!!! She wants to see my newest blood test but will prescribe me all I need but first wants to have me try some clomid. Mentioned test is last resort and says I need to take hCG but knows my insurance won't cover it.

it took me about 2 years to find a HRT doctor and its cheaper than the copay I pay if going through my insurance, besides they won't do hCG and probably no AI. if LowT.com is still above your budget i'd say keep looking for HRT doc that writes you the script where you can go to any pharmacy.

My insurance covers the BW, the needles and syringes but not the test. ( go figure) but, thanks to this forum, my test and syringes cost me less than $80 every three months.

If I had to do it again I would do the LowT vs Dr Crisler and the BS I had to deal with. Several $300 piss in a jug tests, $500 to see him, 40$ a month HCG that was 10+ to ship DHEA cream that I did not need was $100 more. I bet I spent about 4k in a year PLUS my other blood work that insurance covered.

BUT once you get it dialed in you are set. I am fine now and nothing has to change so that's nice so I would do LowT 1 year to LEARN what does what and how you feel and I tried everything from the gels to shots to shots + Gel + HCG and even gel on the 5th and 6th day then a shot again and different doses from 80mg a week upto 200 a week and bloodwork on all of it.

I say save up 2k and see Mike or someone else, OR dick around for 2-3-4+ years of the ONLY life you have and play doc yourself without anyone helping you or seeing 5+ docs and getting pissed off each time, for me I did not want to play doc and get underground test that's just not consistent and hope I felt good.

Also about insurance they covered the gel's at 800$ a month but not the shots lol, go to Costco and get 10ML for $65 if it's not covered, Also Mike is right about the Obama Care shit as my doc is high up and told me about it and how they are going to cut a lot out and have a "compliance" depart so it will be harder to get a doc that's going to go above and beyond to up his risk of giving someone TRT.

Im training Nashville doctors next week. They will be good to go in 2 weeks!! The great thing about our program is these doctors are trained to use our protocols and absoulte best methods in TRT. We personally oversee and triage with the doctor on every case. We have a great Hippa compliant software that allows our medical department here to oversee your treatment and keep a watchdog eye on our national doctor affiliates. Its like having a whole team of TRT experts on your case. We've taken the hassle out of all of the above threads Im reading you guys have to deal with and rolled everything into an easy quick process to optimaize your hormones with confidence.
