    Macros Vs Clean eating

just curious on other peoples take on getting a great physique in regards to just meeting macros and pretty much eating whatever or a combination of both counting macros and keeping it clean.

I have some friends that claim they got shreded eating all kinds of shit like macdonalds and KFC just by meeting their macros

then i have other friends that claim clean eating is the only way

So whats your experience and what do you beleive?

What crazy macro split did they have if they were eating all kinds of shit? A fat allowance of 200g per day?

I'm not sure I understand your question. Do you mean Hitting your macros or eating whatever you want? For most, hitting macro's means having a lower fat approach. You can have an approach called IIFYM (if it fits your macro's) but ultimately you still need to hit your macro's. In theory, hitting your macro's will yield almost the same results no matter your choice of foods. It's not as if you'd get to eat a lot of junk food anyway and you'd hardly have all your carbs as 'simple' sugar.

FYI, 'clean' doesn't mean a lot to me. Hit your macro's or don't.
    NO SOURCES GIVEN

It's possible to get ripped and eat fast food all the time but you'd need to find which menu options in which amounts suit your needs. Your physique depends on calories and macros primarily. In the big picture the sources of those macros mean little to body composition. But the micros you may be missing out on by not eating more nutritious options can impact your well being and health indirectly affecting your physique.

At he end of the day, it's like BiB says, you hit your macros or you don't. No diet should necessarily be taken to extremes and that's what some have done with IIFYM, Paleo, Atkins, carb cycling, etc. Moderation is a wonderful thing so while I do enjoy fast food or "dirty" food regularly, I make it fit the rest of my diet and enjoy it as one small part to my overall diet.

Clean to me just refers to where I get the macro nutrients from.

I prefer to get my fats from mono and poly unsaturated sources, (avocados, olive oil, macadamia oil, coconut oil, hemp seeds, chia seeds)

I prefer to find low Glycemic index carbs (oats, quinoa, sweet potatoes, beans,) and from green fibrous veggies)

And for me protein is protein as long as it is a complete protein (contains all essential amino acids)

I've been on dirty bulk diets that allowed for more sugars and such, and i felt horrible. IMHO if you can avoid carbs that cause insulin spikes, avoid trans fats and minimize saturated fats, eat complete proteins Then by all means hit your macros and you're gonna be good

I have had better results eating dirty as hell but still hitting my macros then when I ate strictly bro foods...personally a huge believer in IIFYM....but then again I wasn't really counting macro's back when I was "eating clean" so it is hard to say for sure in the "IIFYM Clean" vs "IIFYM Dirty" comparison.

Haha, guess thats the best of both worlds.

It probably depends partly on genetics and how your body responds to diff nutrition.

Additionally if you go past your daily calorie amount you will get fat off of clean foods.

I try to eat clean simply because it gives me more food for less calories, if I chose to get a pizza for example I would eat the whole thing and completely blow my daily allowance.

Yeah, I have a maintenance of about 3900, so I can usually fit some good stuff in there.
