    Comps updates

This message was originally a PM to OBS but it is better for everyone to see.
OBS informed me that, upon checking up on when is the next date of the next comp, he said, it isn't till Jan (2nd). Ok. Then I thought, why does it need to not reflect the goals of myself? My goals are the same of the average guy, or above average guy, whatever.

Here is the PM response that is probably better off in a public forum:

We all know that what we aim for is that our goals are long-lived, not just three months. Comps of three months nicely reflect a cycle or a contest prep. Few of our members have that goal. In fact none of the advice that is given here is based upon peaking and collapsing. We give and take advice that says we should, try to keep gains, continue to build upon gains, and continue to learn from the AAS experience so that we can continue to get better. Why should we continue to highlight three months as being an achievement when all that we say and feel is for the long term? Maybe we can't stay in "contest prep" mode for the remainder of our lives but, can we devote more time than three months to a friendly competition knowing that this is about us being better than the old us? Perhaps a contest lasting six months is more reflective of our goals?

So, perhaps this should be a poll...
IDK, know how to create a poll...I barely know how to do anything on social media. Hoping for help with that. I selected "create poll." And, "2," options.
A-Change January comp to a longer timeline
    B-don't

if people committed to 6 months that would be awesome. however, I think the reality is that the longer it would last the greater the drop out rate would be.
    example -
    - if a competition lasted only 2 weeks and you had 30 people sign up, you'd likely have 28 people finish and only 2 drop out
    - if a competition lasted 12 weeks and you had 30 people sign up, you'd likely have 18 people finish and 12 drop out
    - if a competition lasted 24 weeks and you had 30 people sign up, you'd likely have 8 people finish and 22 drop out

I guess at the end of the 6 months it would leave only the people who were truly committed or who at least had the stamina. but it would be far less of a competition in regards to total amount of competitors.
but then again this whole bodybuilding endeavor is a 'marathon' and not a sprint anyhow. its how many times you fall off and yet keep going that pays off in the end

Look at Guitarzan. He has competed in the last 3 comps. That’s 9 months. He improves in each one.

Also the next competition will have the option of competitors having a coach. I can’t get anyone to commit to a longer period.

The accountability logs are best for the long haul which I know you are doing.

What GH said above as well.

And remember there is not a comp chairman who is the only one that can start them. If you want to start a 6-9 month comp pick a start date and start talking it up. Get interest in it and do it. Admin can put it in the area above or run it through the loung. There is more activity and viewing in the lounge I’ve learned over time.

    Dropouts never accomplish anything anyway...
I say let someone shine and run it 6 months.

Someone will benefit in a way that changes their life forever.

In the last comp we had 4 drop outs. And Octane was mia for 11 weeks showed up and won.
If you do it I suggest mandatory picks every 4-6 weeks to keep people interested in following.

Uh... Not one to brag, but I remember the ending differently.

I'll say this, that comp thread kept me engaged, but yeah, after a bit, it was mostly just a few of us with the occasional interloper.

The mandatory picks, in my mind, allude to the idea of participation. So, their should be participation. Perhaps there should be a rule for all comps regarding a minimum of the type and amount of information shared? Me, I'm okay that people drop out. As GH concluded, it is about commitment. Maybe we could use one of those crowd sharing apps, the participant (and coach) could win an amount at the conclusion, then at 2x the legnth of the comp then at three times, then at 2x times that total time? Could be backloaded on the amount of winnings.
An honorable act would be that the winner would purchase, with ten percent of winnings, items from this websites suppliers...which gets into a much broader realm of possibilities.

Incoporating Couche's statement, the winners and the rest, could be moved into a sub bracket with other winners. The model is from when the forum started, almost twenty years ago. The ethic that is preached reflects long term growth. This causes (me at least) some cognitive dissonance. We have many members re-signing up to comps.

Honestly someone could run the two comps simultaneously.

-Right, but, then we are at the place I was when I heard we weren't starting until January.
-Should I just stop working out? ...I know but it is a legit thought based on this.
-I am a very anti-authoritarian, non-consume/follower/ not even giving a shit type. But, during the last competition I felt -drive from the people who were contributing and competing.
-Thinking about how much that meant, it is hard to let go of that resource.
-Also, most winners are "most improved" and I'm super out of shape. I'm at a catch-22, I could wait to start to harness the true spirit of competition in our culture or I could start now and lose the opportunity to win.
In a longer contest, I could start now knowing that it wasn't just about the guy that got skinniest fastest nor the guy that timed his peak. A longer competition would focus on doing more stuff right. Those "stuff" would also reflect the crap that we have been preaching, and is still the good (in the ethical sense) part of what we are still incorporating in our responses. A longer contest allows for more unorthodox, by the measure of this group but now being accepted, and embraces the ethic behind the motivation for not accepting what we now agree as having worth.

And, If you don't vote for it, maybe I'll start a thread called, "pre-contest," where I'll post pictures of how fat I'm getting. Nobody will sign up for the comp but me and I'll run unopposed on another thread where I start the unofficial contest and take a lot of shit while I post improvements which supersede anything done so far. Probably wear a smoking jacket and matching underwear, and same color bunny slippers.

I’m confused. Why don’t you just start a 6 month comp?

One or both of us are confused; isn't that what we are talking about?

I guess my confusion comes from you not just announcing the competition and doing it. You are apparently passion it about it so why let a pole tell you if you do it or not, which no one has even voted.

The question to vote on was to make comps a standard of 5-6 months instead if the regular 3 months we've done in the past few comps.

Then a poll was included to see everyone else view on time frame.

    But.....

Why not just agree on time frame before each Comp?

I think 12-16 weeks are plenty of time.

It gets the guys ass in gear quick. Get serious quick.

6 months I can see guys going "ah fuck it, I'll play catch up in the last 3 or 4 months"
