    Home gym

Anyone else into the home gym lifestyle, I didn't notice an actual thread for this.

I had a power lifting type gym a few years back, I sold everything and will be building up another gym sometime next year.

I had roughly 1200lb of weights in those days and even old school 55lb plates which made sled, dead lift or farmers walk very interesting. Yes those farmer walks handles were used heavily back in those days

I know kel is one of them, but I haven't seen any gym pics/stories around here. Is there a specific thread by any chance?

I love your squat rack. I think I am going to build an outdoor unit. I workout from home only. Have had good results. Want a leg press.

Yea, it was nice but kind of a cheap rack

My next one, i'm looking forward to elitefts equipment. I'm more of a powerlifter/strongman rather than straight bb

Thats nice! I am a good welder and have fabricated some very effective simple machines in the past.
2"x2" od square tube slides nicely into 2-1/2"x 2-1/2"
3/16ths thickness square tube with the seam removed. I have spare olympic bars so for about $80 I can make a smith machine that will hold 1000lb. I have found that powdered graphite makes the best lubricant for the metal to metal contact in things like this.
The biggest disadvantage I have is I dont have a spotter I feel safe with. More than once I have gone down on my knees and had to throw the bar off. The last time I boke an olympic bar. I must lift safer or I will wind up sitting out due to injury.

That doesn't sound safe at all, you have any pictures of this setup or plans? I'm a big fan of having the spotter arms, ropes, or those bands they sell from some powerlifting company that attaches to a rack so if you need to bail it can be done so safely.

I've had to bail on a squat or heavy, heavy bench before but than again I have the spotter arms setup in a way which will be used if I need to drop.

Very basic design. I would weld stop plates on the uprights at my ass to grass point.
    About 40' of 2"x2" 1/2" thick
About two feet of 2.5"x2.5" 3/16" thick
About 1' of 1 inch ID pipe
    One olympic bar
    Graphite powder
    Paint
It wouldnt be fancy but it would hold a truck and be extremely effective.

The last thing I purchased was the used Rae Crowther squat rack for $400.

No sir, my un- air conditioned shop, but I do have a barrel fan and a couple of smaller fans.
Kel has a real dungeon in his basement, though.

Aw that's perfect. Have you ever thought about or looked into power blocks? I have a little power rack in my pad too and the only thing I really miss is a big long dumbell rack and a good spotter (sucks not having a lift off).

I am also considering building a home gym as I have not been satisfied with the commercial gym experience. I want to purchase a power rack but i dont think it would be the best to put in my basement since i have like 6-7ft from my drop ceiling to the floor. post the pictures once my basement renovation finished

That’s an awesome setup! I really need to start thinking about putting some basic stuff together for home use, got to start somewhere.
