What TYPE of sleep is needed for recovery/gains.

I know going by the books I should get 8 hours of good sleep a night for proper gains, but I have very very rarely ever been able to sleep for a solid 8Hrs. I get quite a few days off from work now and am able to just sleep in and rest in bed for hours, but I would usually be wide awake after 6Hrs sleep.
For maximum gains, do we actually have to be asleep, as in REM sleep or deep sleep? If not, is just being rested in bed as good as sleep?

7 to 8 hours of good sleep.
You want to wake up feeling rested and relax.
Honestly, I rarely get that much sleep as I wake up at night a few times to piss cuz of all the water I drink and my biological clock is set to wake up by 5AM... But sometimes cuz my body is exhausted from the gym I end up falling asleep early and wake up after a good 8 hours of sleep and I just feel great after! But when that happens I gotta gun it to the toilet right away lmao

Arnold says 5 hours of sleep is enough and if anyone disagrees they should sleep faster.

I really think that sleep can be a very individual thing. I've heard of some top level athletes and high level business people who sleep in 3, 90 minute increments in a 24 hour periods. I couldn't function like that personally. 6-7 hours of solid deep sleep and I'm good.

I wish I could sleep 8 hours straight. I always, and I mean ALWAYS, at least wake up to pee a couple times. Usually it’s 3 hours, wake up, 3 hours, wake up, 2-3 hours, or some variation of that.

Agree with the guys it's individual, the rock gets 3-4 hours sleep and so do many successful bodybuilders and businessmen..I need 6 or I feel worn down in the morning and my energy levels are not 100 perfect

Something for myself that is odd is I notice if I sleep too long more than 8+ hrs or take naps I wake up in a horrible mood and just don't feel 100%.

Stages 3 and 4 are when the body repairs and grows. I'm sure the rest in the other stages help too but the body is the focus in 3 and 4. The wave pattern occurring in stages 3 and 4 is delta.

We have sleep cycles, Delta wave, in stages 3 and 4 is reached in the beginning of the evening and by roughly the fifth hour we don't fall into Delta again. The following sleep cycles simply don't pass stage 2. REM and stages 1 and 2 are reached multiple times over the course of the night. It is in these stages that (for lack of a better term) cognitive maintenance occurs, like memory consolidation and learning is finalized. So, if one was an olympic power lifter, he wouldn't want to deprive himself of hours 5-8 because stages REM thru stage 2 help him to perfect is movement patterns, and other psych stuff.

Assuming they don’t have sleep apnea. I was stopping breathing 73 times in an hour.

When I think I've not had enough sleep, but sleep more anyway...I feel bad.

I believe it's like most say.....whatever works for you naturally will be best.

I’m one of those people, but I’ve been restless my whole life.

I sleep in increments between 15-90 minutes that probably total up to 3.5-5 hours of sleep a night on average. I may get 8 once a week or so if I’m off work. I think you just adapt to whatever you’re use to

I need 7-8 hours. Otherwise, I'm tired and irritated. Sometimes I suffer from insomnia, so I face a problem. I'm glad to find out that cbd oil helps me. I can fall asleep after taking it. And I noticed that when I was about 20, I needed less sleep to feel good. Am I growing old?

I don't understand how some of these athletes manage it. Humans don't get 'used' to lack of sleep. I need my 8 hours!

Be sleeping by 12 o clock as around 2-3 am your body releases the most growth hormone. You should be in deep rem sleep by then.

Sleep is individual, but I've read that sleeping less than 8 hours can only hurt. But if you often wake up at night but sleep 8 hours, that's bad too. It's up to your condition. For me, 9 hours of sleep is enough.

After reading about testosterone level and sleep anyone on cycle should sleep as much as humanly possible. Testosterone inhibits Delta waves to a severe degree. There is wisdom in how Arnold trained and slept. Primo has a much reduced effect on delta waves as compared to test. Tons of information on the topic with a google.
