In any case, It's pretty damn impressive being clean and all.
i know a guy who weighed 180, is natural, was 18 years old and squated 575 8 times and went low enough!!!!!!
but thats pretty good for your brother to do that at 175
Not to flame but at the depth he is squatting to I would classify that lift as "nothing to write home about". I'm not implying that he can't squat that weight ass to calves or at least to parallel, but that squat was too shallow to be called a squat IMO.
Most sprinter squat ass to calves. Hamstring and glute development are a huge part of building power out of the blocks, ie a good start.Might not be proper form for a bodybuilder, but he's a sprinter. Even if your a sprinter you need to use proper form...
Kinda reminds me of the guy´s that use way to much weight in the legpress and only bend the knees alittle.
AVI files like this can hide spyware programs in it. Does anyone check the code of these files before they are posted?Originally Posted by palme
you are working more knees than you are quads
lighten the weight and go parallel, at least
I really hate guys like that
That's not a squat, it's a sq.

If he takes that weight all the way down he will not get back up. Tell him to cut the weight in half and do it right.

Anyway 450 lbs in free squat, when you can only make half squat, dont he think in consecuences of a muscular fail so that he couldnt hold it? does he know what means 450 lbs bar pulling down you spine? when i saw the avi i didnt think at all in what he was doing, i was thinking in what could have happened if his knees failed.
I'd rather see someone with 225lbs on his back and squat below parallel than using weight too heavy for them and not squating corectly.
That's a good way to end up with injuries.
Agree, i love free squats, nice quad sensations when a bit overtrained, but for my 90-100% weights... machine, parallel or 2 very strong friends around. Some ppl in my gym says im crazy cuz i receive hits in my head, but i prefer take care of some scratches in my face than worrying about were could i go with my wheelschair.Originally Posted by TheMudMan
crap squat IMO
haha i'd almost go as far as to say its a squ, but you're probably right, more of a sq

Is it me or are you guys the only ones that do real squats at your gyms too? I swear people at my gym don't know what a squat is!!
Since when do sprinters run around with 450 lbs on their shoulders? All the sprinters I knew in college did ass deep squats to hit the glutes hard.Originally Posted by hinder
True. I'll be warming up with little weight and people will walk over and say WOW. They think 225 is heavy.Originally Posted by RabidLassie

As a powerlifter hell no that's not a squat. Not even in the IPA.
However don't forget half squats have there place in training as well depending on your specific goals. It may or maynot be well used for sprinting but, partials have always played a part in strength training.
Just because they're not featured in the latest "GET HUGE" muscle magizine workout doesn't mean that partials don't have their place.
Keep an open mind fellas that's what smart training is all about.

Sorry man, but if you do partial squats at the gym I go to people will call you a pussy and think you don't know how to train.Originally Posted by xxxl83
I think you were missing the point xxx was making................partial squats are used like partial lifts are used in bench lifts. Hell I got one for you that doesn't even have a lift portion. Ever hear of walk-outs? It's a Russian technique for getting the legs used to heavier weights. In between sets while doing squats you set the bar load up a crap load of weight, pick it up, step back, ready yourself like you are about to really lift it.................then set it back in the rack, strip the weight back to your next normal weight for the set and do your squats. Not jumping on you bro just thought you missed his point is all.Originally Posted by RabidLassie
Like the bros said in the other posts I'd rather have seen him sacrifice the weight for better form. But it still good to see a bro using them in his training................I'm always amazed that the bench in every gym is worn................yet the squat rack looks just like new.![]()
Rabidlassie,
Well then it might be people at your gym know very little about strength training.
Also at 5'11" 245lbs @ 12%bf I don't think too many people will call me a pussy no matter how I train.

Honestly that is why I do 20 rep squats - that way I make sure that my form is good and even though I use less weight than I could, i dont risk injury - of course it takes a truck to drag me in for leg day because 1 set of 20-25 is about all I feel like doing that day- hopefully I will get to where I am doing 450 for 20 next year - only 85 lbs to go
and whats with all the plates? you only need 4 a side and some 25s. or are those not olympian plates?
i agree with xxxl83 partials are not dead they still have there place in any gym. I am suprised at how many flames are in this thread. If he wasnt planning on doing partial lifts in that video and just overloaded the bar maybe you should give him advice instead of flames?someone even mentioned the fact that some other boards would say nice weight i think not i think they would do exactly what most are doing.
that is the absolute worst squat form ive ever seen.......he went like 3 inches...and why does he have rubber plates on there????
