Waz Up Guys see if you can help me out.

My cycle before was a very high cycle of lots of test(Omanadren 250) not that pure so I hear. Well that left me with a bunch of acne on my back and my chest. I can't wear shirts to work no more I want to see my muscle when I lift. But then I don't want anybody seeing my acne. What can I do to get rid of it without seeing a doctor. Some pills I can buy or soap there has to be something. I'm sure some of you have been in the same boat, please help me.

Acutane works but it is harsh on the system,, ask you doc for some minocycline,, you only have to take one a day and the shit does work...

your right acutane does effect your liver, but it does work great....under close supervision, with blood tests you should be fine as a ddoctor would advise you to stop if he noticed anything irregulare in your lab results

No sweat, bro. First, since you described your work situation, we'll assume that you're a full-blown adult rather than a teenager, thus past the usual age for acne.

There are a few things you can do, and they're all as basic as pie. First, Clearasil. Seriously, bro - anything with benzoil peroxide will help, but I found that Clearasil is the best. Use the tinted kind, not the clear; it will help cover your zits somewhat, though not totally.

Second, bop over to your drug store (or the health & beauty aids aisle of your local supermarket) and pick up a good astringent. I use Clean & Clear by Johnson & Johnson, specifically the oil-fighting formulation. I've been amazed at how effective it is, especially since it's an over-the-counter product.

Do not use plain alcohol; it will tend to dry your skin without helping the zits at all. Ditto witch hazel by itself, also not very effective. For some reason, the particular blend in the Clean & Clear seems to wor better for me than anything else.

As far as soap, I go with bonker - use a good antibacterial soap. Not just a deodorant soap, but one that actually says antibacterial. I generally use plain ol' Dial at the gym, but at home I use Dial with aloe - it doesn't dry the skin as much. You don't have to scrub heavily (which could irritate the acne), just keep the area clean and oil-free.

Obviously, take a few steps to make sure your diet is in order. Don't overdo the chocolate (yeah, I know "they" say that chocolate itself doesn't cause zits, but I always seem to get a couple when I overdo the chocolate), and specifically cut out any foods that are heavy on grease or oils (McDonald's Fries, for example, as well as anything else deep-fried or greasy in nature). A few days ago, I dropped a couple of bags of chow mein noodles in a pint of wonton soup from my local Chinese restaurant, and noticed how many droplets of oil it added to the soup liquid. The next day, pop! Two zits. Bummer . . . Now I no longer intend to use the hard noodles (which are deep-fried) in my wonton soup.

FWIW, when I started using test I noticed that I did break out. I'm not an old man, but I'm definitely past the age of teenage zits. I also noticed, however, that the more (longer) I used test, the less I got zits, until they were nonexistent. In other words, if you're just starting out, your body has to adjust to the oil (face it, for every 200 mg of test, you're injecting a cc of oil into your bod). It will adjust, and you'll find that as you use test longer, it will not have the same effect.

Also, a suggestion that no one has brought up in this thread thus far - head over to some place with a tanning booth (Hollywood Tans or a similar tanning salon, for example) and hit the UV light. I recommend stand-up booths over lay-down beds, a more even approach, but the idea is to get some UV acting against the zits (especially if you can't reach your freakin' back zits with the Clearsil or the Clean & Clear). Don't overdo it, lest you burn your ass (especially out of season, when you may noty be used to sun exposure, or if you are fair skinned in the first place), but some artificial sun may help.

Finally, take pride in your zits! If you're no longer a teenager, it will keep you feeling young! (Alright, I exaggerate a little, but what the fuck are we gonna do, spend all our time wallowing? A positive approach is much healthier.) Besides, the wacky world of AS tends to be a Lone Ranger gig, and you may find a brother or sister at the gym who sees a zit on your back and knows thet he or she is not alone. We can all guess about whether some stacked dude is a juicer, but that's not nearly as good a giveaway as an adult with zits and a big freakin' bruise on his butt from a botched-up shot. There's a message in this paragraph, bro - as much as they've proven that chocolate is not a major contributor to acne, they'vbe also proven that stress is a major contributor. Hang loose and try not to be stressed (whether about the zits or anything else); that will also help.

antibiotics will do real good work to regulate your hormones internally (to prevent further acne) and they will kill replicating bacteria (to kill the acne that exists), but you want some EXTERNAL precautions.
Non prescription:
oil free facial clenser by neutrogena (with 2% salicylic acid)... use this on your body or use the body wash with (2% SA)... after a week or so kiss your acne good bye.
use a loofa to scrub away the clogged part of the pores

Bro, B5, some expensive neutrogena, clearasil, clean&clear body wash, showers 2-3 times a day...if you sweat, take a shower. Sheets are a must to be changed basically...eod IMO.

PaPa Pump makes a great point, one I forgot to mention in my earlier post.

Frankly, I'm surprised at how many guys go to a gym, do a heavy workout, sweat up a storm, and split without showering. (I seem to remember reading an article a couple of years ago about how most even high school students don't shower after gym class these days, something that was required when I was in high school. If I were a girl, I don't think I'd want to be around some of you guys after gym class.)

Not that I have any great desire to see any of your stacked bodies in the buff, showering after you work out is one of the best things you can to to fight the acne. Sweating during a workout is a given (especially when doing cardio), but it ends there. By showering immediately after you work out (meaning before you leave the gym), you'll help fight not only the acne, but also rashes, athlete's foot, jock itch, and a host of other fun things you can do without.

definately take b-5 pantothenic acid. they say it is natural accutane. it does the same things but with natural vitamins. take GRAMS!!!!!!!! a day and u will notice a big difference it will probably take a month but it works. go to the nearest nutrition center.

Minocycline does have an effect on the flora of the intestines, but if not taking for an extended period of time the therapeutic effect greatly outweighs (for some people) the temporary gastric imbalance... It should be ok to take for 3-6 wks for most people....

Well, let's put it this way . . . You'd sure pay off your deductible pretty fast . . .

Accutane is one of the most effective treatments for acne, but we should be clear: it is only prescribed for "severe recalcitrant nodular acne," in which there are inflammatory lesions of 5 mm. or larger. In other words, most dermatologists will prescribe Accutane as a last resort, after all other treatments have failed.

Accutane has a very high toxicity rate, especially on the pancreas and liver, as well as side effects out the gazoo. Physicians who prescribe it universally require regular lab tests. Moreover, the manufacturer (Roche) requires that patients and/or their guardians sign a consent for treatment that is more intricate than most surgical "informed consent" forms.

Additionally, there are even more restrictions for female patients, to the extent that a woman cannot legally receive an Accutane prescription until she has had two negative pregnancy tests and has consented to using at least two forms of birth control.

If you want to read specifics, the actual product literature for Accutane is at http://www.rocheusa.com/products/accutane/pi.html. Remember, product literature is highly technical, but you will get an idea of the scope of what I'm talking about. If you want to get an idea of some of Accutane's negative effects, just do a Yahoo search on "accutane," and you'll see a variety of articles.

As for cost, it's through the roof. Keep in mind that Accutane is a name-brand drug (meaning that there is no generic equivalent available), which means that the manufacturer charges big bucks. Accutane is prescribed according to body weight. You would probably start with 30 to 50 mg. per day in divided doses (depending on how much you weigh), then titrate up to twice that amount and, if your acne is very severe, three times the initial amount.

That said, Accutane capsules come in three strengths: 10, 20, and 40 mg. A quantity of thirty 10 mg. capsules costs $201.70 from drugstorecom, $221.37 from Eckerd, and $224.99 from Walgreen's. Thirty of the 40 mg. capsules costs $260.15 from drugstore.com, $265.31 from Eckerd, and $274.99 from Walgreen's. Remember, these are online retail prices; the retail in the actual drug stores is probably higher. When you consider that a "cycle" (a word I'm sure we all understand) of Accutane is 15 to 20 weeks, we're talking big bucks. And that's in addition to multiple visits to the dermatologist (generally, only a dermatologist will prescribe Accutane), which makes it even more expensive if you don't have flexible insurance.

In summary, Accutane is the last thing you normally try to get rid of acne, after you have tried all other (and less potentially toxic) options. Guys that have used it (and it is used mostly by guys) will praise its effectiveness to the high heavens -for some, it's the only thing that worked. But a decision to use Accutane should never be made lightly.

Bottom line: Accutane is great (some would even say a god-send) for those who truly need it, but exhaust your other options first, whether it's over-the-counter preparations or antibiotics.

And remember that testosterone-induced acne is just like testosterone-induced gyno: Once you stop the test (or any other oil-based AS, it should begin to heal on its own. If you have just gotten off your cycle (especially if you are beyond the normal age for teen acne), give it time to start healing, along with trying some of the other suggestions in this thread. Yeah, I know - patience is a bitch and a half, but chances are that the acne will go away.

P.S. For what it's worth, when I started doing test, I got my first zits in years. I immediately felt younger. Hell, when I see a 30-year-old dude with zits at the gym, it's almost like a hidden signal that makes me want to say, "Hey . . . bro!"

My acne is not all that bad and it is my first cycle so I guess I should probley stay away from Accutane for now. That way my body does not get use to it. Do you agree?

There are, of course, exceptions to the rule. One of the exceptions is that you are 27 years old, which fits a different clinical profile than the usual Accutane patient (who is a teenager).

I also assume that, because of your knowledge of AS, you had done some research on Accutane and presented an intelligent rationale for requesting it. Granted, chances are that you will not (or did not) have any significant complications, but the whole idea behind having routine or recommended lab work done is to make sure everything is cool.

By the way, I'm curious - did you tell the dermatologist the reason you got the acne?

I am currently in my second month of accutane. I only had a mild case of acne on my backand almost none on my face, but I had taken all the antibiotics, creams, lotions, soaps, etc. for about a year. So when I went to see a dermatologist he just asked if I had heard about accutane and if I wanted to try it. The problem is it can be harsh on the liver so don't mix it with your oral steroids (i am debating breaking this rule) and you're going to have blood tests done every month or so. I'm still in the stage where my acne gets a little worse and my lips are chapped to hell. But from the other people I know who have used it, it seems to be a miracle drug.

I can only speak from my own experience and from what I have seen and found for others.

Anti biotics are next to useless to get rid of steroid induced acne, perhaps they work well for the person who isnt using anything and has a small pimple here and there.

Vitamin B5 cannot be compared to accutane, Vitamin B is not the same as Vitamin A. Given it does work but not in the same way and it is expensive using such high amounts.

I was on accutane for 5 months straight and suffered minimallym 40-60mgs / day. The liver damage is greatly over rated.

TNT.....you said there is no generic version of accutane. Well I'm on Ranbaxy Isotret given to me by my dermatologist. This IS the generic form of accutane. Below on the box its called isotretinoin capsules, and Accutane's drug name found in every medical book is Isotretinoin. Therefore, Its much cheaper and will work just like accutane
