You can definitely benefit from training on your own, but like others said, you won't get a realistic skill. You can develop the basic fundamentals that you can later apply towards legitimate experience. Even informal "garage training" will help with things like timing, reaction, realistic competitive energy.
As far as getting into it with dudes- It's kind of funny how you worded that, but I understand. I almost never get into street fights because I don't want to get shot or stabbed while trying to do a one on one "fair" fight, which just doesn't happen anymore. Even if you're outnumbered by one guy, that still can easily be too much, unless they're guys that pipe off and then freeze after you bitch slap the shit out of the first guy- which happens!
