Quited smoking is a pain in the ass :0icon_pis

Quitted smoking 4 days ago, cold turkey. Im grumpy, slightly paranoid and angry.

Reason for quitting is for saving cash. Used like $5-700 a month on this shit.

Anyone else going/have gone through this? Any help to ease the "pain"?

I know it's super hard to quit that's why i never started it. I quit alcohol though, last time i drank was 3 years ago.

But one effective way is to multiply that 750$ by 12. Imagine you spend all that money on gear and food now . Better?

U stopped! U haven't quit... It's a rough road I know! Just breath deep and keep occupied with something other than having a smoke... After a meal or in the car was the two biggest for me! Plain and simple u have to get new habits, better habits, healthy habits... Hope this helps

    Shit

    Quitting smoking is pvssy shit

I quit 100% before, then started smoking again - but, on my terms. Most I smoke is maybe a handful of smokes a month - if that

Can't even remember the last time I bought a pack

It just smells like shit - I rarely smoke, mostly when I get fvcked up

But, compared to shaking some habits - smoking is not even close to the same level

You guys are a bunch or quitters.

I use to smoke, sort of. It started as a weekend thing and then a few a week until it was a little over a pack a week so I stopped almost 5 years ago.

Even at that little bit it still wasnt easy but that nust made me more determined. I dont like anything having a hold on me.

    What's one & 2?

I justified cost of smoking to myself for a while. You can order smokes from Ru or the like for like 30% of the U.S. Cost. Or I got em from Mexico -

I agree - either or can be interchanged, depending on the personality it attached itself to

The first attacks the CNS in ways nothing else can. The 2nd works on a diff mechanism, yet is close to as addictive as the 1st.

Breaking addiction from just about anything requires cognitive changes in our day to day life - it requires you to stay on your toes not to turn back. It's easier to just go back and start back up, than not. It's work - every day, for a long time.

The most important thing to do in breaking the habit is replace the act of smoking with something else. I used regular chewing gum for this. Get the kind with the strongest flavours. I preferred Cinnaburst and Big Red for it.

But yeah, don't get caught up in the nicotine gums or any of the other gimmicks. If you want to quit you just need will-power and some regular gum. After the first few weeks, you'll be in the clear. In April or May, I'll have quit for 10 years

I love smoking, really love it. I smoke one pack a day.
That being said I have been trying to quit for some time. Nothing but bad things come from it, the older I get the more it sets in, this shit is going to kill me.

I can make it thru the day just fine, its the driving that gets me. I chain smoke in car, I have cut back to 3-4 cigs on way to work which is 20 min drive but man that is my vice. Im actually thinking of working from home to avoid driving for a bit.

stay strong man, dont start again, keep on going. good luck

I smoked 2.5 packs a day for 20 years. Quitting was the best thing I ever did. When I was younger it really didn't bother me , as I got older I started to really feel the effects of smoking. Tried cold turkey and wanted to murder somebody by the second day..lol. The nicotine gum worked for me, really took the edge off ,then I just started chewing regular gum. It's rough at first , but the longer you don't smoke the easier it gets. It's been 5 years now and don't even think about it anymore , in fact, the smell of it now is pretty disgusting to me.

When I was reading Miles Davis' autobiography I was surprised to see he mentioned that he found quitting heroin was waaay easier than cigarettes.

Miles was quite a cat. One of his grandsons is a friend from uni days, and oh, the stories he would tell. The brilliant ones are so often crazy.

I have heard that personally from recovering addicts

IMO - it's all in our head - If I can't control myself who will do it for me?

Coming off the shit that have been really opened my eyes to real will power & self control

Just very hard for us to find sometimes

We find ways to lie & justify things to ourselves in so many ways - I been there, done damn near all - twice

It literally IS in our heads. Nicotine binds to receptors in our brain, and causes a complicated series of both desensitising the receptors and the activation of many more receptors where the end result is that we become so dependent on nicotine that the brain perceives it as necessary to life, just like drinking, eating and sex. We might not technically need cigarettes, but convincing our brains otherwise is not so easy. Try ignoring your brain's wish for water when you are thirsty - soon you can't think of anything else.

I think I remember reading that cold turkey is the best way to quit, and that in like 72 hours, the nicotine is completely gone, although it can take like 3 weeks for your brain receptors to normalise. I smoked for awhile in my twenties and one day when I started a second pack in one day, I decided enough was enough, and threw them in the glove box and stopped.

I hope you are hanging in there - I think four days in you have passed the worst of it.

    Four days - LoL

It's life long, to me at least for sure - It's like seriously two parts of your brain talking to one another. The "I need it" to the noooo - it's bad for me & I shouldn't do it

The CNS is a tough competitor that's for sure - Self control is one tough mother fvcker
