    Weird hobbies

Any of you guys have weird hobbies that people would never guess you are into? For example, I love using gear and lifting weights… but I’m also into trains and mode trains lol.

Not much to be honest as there were a fair few in circulation at the time and quite a few of them dug up…
Unfortunately not everything old unless it’s gold is worth much….
The Roman cistersi a big fat coin again 2000 years old isn’t worth much..
I’m sure I still have the coin around when I have time I will dig it out,I have a few silver hammered coins dating back around 1400 years will dig them out too and put them up…

I could see something like that becoming addictive… You just never know what you’re gonna find. That can be a good way to get some cardio in too haha.

I collect old electronics from my youth. Computers, CRT tvs, component stereos, video game consoles. Stuff I remember playing with as a kid or stuff that I wanted that I couldn't get.

Im not sure if any of my hobbies are Weird or strange (not the ones I can talk about ) but Ive had a few. Working on all types, makes, models of cars engine wise. Done a bit of body work and painting cars. Building and Flying model airplanes back in the day U control, radio control. RC cars, boats, helicopters, drones.
I use to scuba dive, until I got certified and haven't been since. lol
Riding/playing with ATVs, PWCs, snow skiing
I guess I should count surgeries as a hobby since I'm up to 20 now.
Loosing money in the stock market.... 401K is doing OK though and 20 years worth of pension.

I have about 100 different things I keep planning on starting to do/try such as powder coating. Hydro dipping. Got a metal detector and never used it, yet.

Man I always use to think white was right but now I am loving these South American browns they have in Florida. They are fit as. We never really had them back in Australia so I never really noticed them before. My grandma would hate me tapping the ultimate taboo hahaha.

I didnt think I really had a preference when I was back in High school and JR High until I looked back at a couple of my old crushes and realized (remembered) they were at least Asian mix. Of course there were a couple who weren't but it was surprising because I had never though about it when I was younger.

Getting popular in Los Angeles. Great game for the older folks. Seeing some public tennis courts transitioned to pickle ball. The wife is after me to give it a try actually.

Just got back into fish after a decade without them. Researched the crap out of “high-tech” planted aquascapes, got all the equipment, but ended up buying a cheaper setup for my bedroom in the meantime.

Man…. I always said if I was rich I would have a massive salt water aquarium in my house… I really enjoy aquariums but the work/cost involved for a salt water set up always scares me away.

Same with me... and having to install an RO/DI unit with a container to constantly filter water, then mix salt water, keep the temperature... constant water testing. And to get a proper setup with a decent 75 gallon tank adds up to over 5 grand - closer to 10 after all is said and done.

The cost and time is why I decided to go for a freshwater aquascape for my "high-tech" 72 gallon I'm setting up. I think these tanks are just as awesome as reef tanks, just in a different way.

I’m totally interested in getting into fish. I find the look/sound so peaceful. Any tips for a total beginner on how to dip my toe in?

Don't spend too much, buy things one at a time. The first tank you do will be an experiment, so don't get caught up in too many details. The tank I first pictured is the cheap one I got. It was a Top Fin 55 gallon for $150 at Petsmart. Comes with everything, but I did add a few things to the filter to make it work better. I like it a lot. Basically you want to start with some community fish. Always research and make sure the fish you're getting are compatible with each other, and don't overstock your tank. In a 55 gallon, I wouldn't put more than 20 2" fish, for example. Look into all the different classifications of freshwater fish, there are many to choose from. Tetras are fun to watch schooling fish. In a wider tank, like my 55 gallon, you can see them school together and swim around the tank.

When you first get the tank set up, you want to avoid fish the first day and just let the filter run. The next day add a few hardy fish (3-5) to start the nitrogen cycle. Basically it goes like this Fish waste/dead plants > Ammonia > Nitrite > Nitrate > Plant food/water changes. So ammonia and nitrites are bad for fish. Nitrates can be tolerated to higher levels and feed plants. You still need to do water changes every couple of weeks just to keep the nitrates in check. The beneficial bacteria takes time to establish and at first your ammonia will be high, followed by nitrites, then finally nitrates. Hardy fish can typically survive this necessary process to complete the nitrogen cycle. After that, you can add more sensitive fish. Get an API test kit and when your ammonia is and nitrites are 0 or close to it, the nitrogen cycle has been established and you're good to go.

If you need any other help you can PM me.

WTF is with that? I could understand if it was private property or someplace heavily populated. Must be so if someone finds anything of any value they arent allowed to keep it.

I’ve always had an aquarium, had a salt water one way back - what a pain in the ass. It took up as much time as going to the gym - it was like a 80-100 gallon tank

So, I keep this guy - just a 40 gal bow front fresh water on live substrate

Just spotted my pleco - it’s like as old as my son

Yeah, I could understand private property too. But public lands as long as you don't leave holes in the ground, what's the problem?

Yeah, AZ has definitely worked out for me. It’s “free” in comparison to other states & has one of the best neurological facilities in the world

So far, so good - I’m used to dealing with the heat
