It doesnt take a genious to figure out that the soldier was of middle eatern decent, but he was american and serving in the military to fight for the US. I'm pretty sure too that he was spared because he perobably spoke their language and begged for his life. But then again i noticed an important thing when he was taken hostage and shown on TV, all the people around me read his name and saw what he looked like and then you could see thought clouds over their heads saying 'since he's actually one of them..shoudl we give a crap about him?' even though he was shown on the news i dont think he got a tenth of the sympathy a whit soldier would have gotten. just my opinion.
