Yea so a girl at work cooked this for everyone the other day, never had Ackee before, or salt fish for that matter. The rice was cooked in coconut milk which is also new to me. Her BF is Jamacian so. I quite liked it actually!
Anyone else had this?

For 19 months......not to bad. Apperantly you've not had a boiled bananna either? The rice and peas cooked with coconut milk I like a lot. There's a pretty good Jamician shop downtown that I stop in every week or so to grab a bite. Ever had Jerk?
Loved it mate, ive never had that type of food before. The ackee was "ok" didnt really taste it as it is so soft. The salt fish was nice, she cooked it with pepprs and tons of other stuff, it was nice, the rice n pea was well nice tooOriginally Posted by Narkissos

They cooked this fish where they placed a Scotch Bonnet Pepper slice on top and some type of red sauce.....man that stuff was great....and that pepper slice was hot as ****!
Good jerk pork is soooooooooooooo good.
Forget the bananna..I didn't like it....but if you run across some Jerk Chicken, eat it.....that stuff is great as well.Originally Posted by MESSY_UK
I think the Pamento wood plays a leading roll in the outcome of that dish. I've tried cooking it over oak and it's not quit the same.Originally Posted by big k.l.g

Boiled banana isn't bad..depends on a variety of things...if you have certain dishes in the parent country it usually tastes different tho IMO

Just mention to her that you'd like to try some Jerk and if she doesn't make you some I'll bet she'll know where to send you. I don't think your allowed to live on the island if you can't cook good Jerk.Originally Posted by MESSY_UK

He he he! Just joking bro...
But seriously, I'm not quite sure why the UK gets such a bad rap around the world when it comes to food... some of the best meals I've ever had were in London. Granted they were all "foreign", but still... wow. Good stuff.

Get some escoveithed fish...real tangy. Or some stewed chicken(my aunt makes it like no other!!), oxtails with some good ripe plantain...throw in some coco bread and you set man
Ackee has a weird texture that I don't really like
Never had "escoveithed fish", I heard of it though. When you said coco bread did you meant coconut bread or just coacoa?Originally Posted by Wrath
