It's not the flu really, not a viral infection of any kind. It's called Serum Sickness, and it's a hypersensitivity reaction by your immune system to a foreign substance. It happens when your immune system incorrectly identifies a protein (or component of the hormone) as potentially harmful. Your immune system tries to develop antibodies to fight this "harmful" protein, and these are deposited in various tissues, which then cause the symptoms of the flu. It's a bit more complex than that, but that is basically what is happening.
