Never was completely gone. You could always get it in smaller tabs, 8mg etc. The fda ban has been lifted though due to lack of consistancy from my understanding. Supplement companies are now allowed to include 10mg or less in their supplement blends.

I heard some judge in Utah overturned the ban on ephedra. I think special interest groups are mobilizing to get congressional banning, as they are with DHEA. So it may not be around too long.

I think that it is awsome that they now have d-ephedrine back on the market. Aside from the health risks, the reason why they removed it was that people were 'relatively' easily able to reduce the b-hydroyl group to give methamphetamine. The government must have realised that d-ephedrine only gives l-methamphetamine (the same stuff from Vicks inhalers

i still get the 25mg pure stuff.. and mix it with 200mg caffine, asprin and yohimbe.. love it...

ephedrine is used as an asthma medicine and can still be acquired if you know how.

Ephedra is the raw plant material which contains many different alkaloids, not just ephedrine; Ephedrine is the pure chemical. Many people reacted negatively to the other alkaloids in the ephedra plant rather than just ephedrine.

Also, some companies would standardize extracts for "total alkaloid content", this would mean they were full of the other alkaloids, giving you a low concentration of ephedrine.

Think of it the same way as Yohimbe and yohimbine, or cannabis and dronabinol (THC)

You are thinking of psudoephedrine. PSE and ephedrine differ in that ephedrine has its methylamino- and hydroxyl group on the same side as each other while PSE has them on opposite sides. This alteration decreases the stimulation while stil providing the sinus releif.
