How long can slin go without be refrigerated?

I have a good friend that is willing to send me some slin. The only problem is it will have to be in the mail for a couple of days. Will this somehow harm the insulin? How long can insulin go without being refrigerated before it becomes dangerous/ineffective?

    Thanks in advance.

If it's still in powder form, I believe it's 28-30 days.

I am assuming your friend is giving you insulin in a bottle (liquid form). If that's the case, then it really depends on what kind of temperatures the package comes by while it's on the way. Generally speaking, insulin is fine at room temp, and if it was to be kept at a place that's fairly warm then it would loose some of its effectiveness.

Also another thing you have to take into consideration is the way mail is being handled. If the package has been thrown around too much this could cause the bottle to crack. So just make sure your friend packages it properly. Also, you don't want to shake it either which is what could happend while it's in the hands of a mail man.

    Never thought of that one.

Is that due to insulin being a peptide hormone?

They are both the same as they both come in vials and are in liquid form.

Hi mate, well a while ago I had some insulin that was accidently shaken up a fair bit which resulted in formation of a bunch of bubbles in the bottle. The bubbles stuck around for quite a few days and then dissapeared. I used that insulin PWO a few times and it just felt like a real low dose. Beats me what the hell happend to it, sounds like it degraded. I switched to another bottle and that was fine. As for slin in powder form, I believe that is what insulin is to start of with before it is turned into liquid (someone correct me if I am wrong). Insulin administration is expanding, they now have enhalers.

i always order the humalog cartridges. they does'nt have any air in it so shaking is'nt much of an issue. when i want to use one i pull it in a syringe and put it in a new vial.

Slin is fine at room temperature, I don’t know what kind of climate you live in but you may want to get your friend to put an ice pack of one of those little packs of blue jell to keep it cool.

You can always get an insulin carry case which will keep the insulin cool up to 16hrs. I forgot to mention that.
