That's allways better then realy hitting a nerve! When you go slow, and hit a nerve, you feel it and pull back.
When you just jab it it, your leg might be twisting, and you'll be cripple for a few hours. (for what I've heard) I also heard that the pain you'll be feeling is FAR more worce then insering a needle slowly/ controlled.

Z Track will work also, but you need a steady hand for that and some practice.
