Thread Locking Out of Hand?

Is it not getting a little carried away to lock a thread because a question has already been asked? I'm sure 90% of the questions posed have already been answered in some form or another. If you dont want to read a thread, dont read it. Get off your power trip guys. This threadlocking is getting a bit out of hand.

If people wouldnt start stupid ass pointless threads or read the rules before posting things then threads wouldnt get locked. Doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure it out.

Run a search: "alcohol+steroids";"drinking+steroids"...etc.

It doesn't take 5 seconds... The poster wasn't even a noob. Noobs get leeway.

It seems nowadays everytime a Mod does his job he has to backflip tru hoops to please you guys.

that question should be forbidden on AR for eternity, AND threads about other threads getting locked or people getting banned need to be instantly locked imo

First off, let me say I think our mods do a great job overall. I'm not trying to bash on anyone inparticular here. Many of the mods have helped me in the past and I'm sure I'll be sending them plenty of PMs with questions in the future.

I completely realize that someone starts a thread about drinking and steroids almost daily. I would further agree that a simple search could have turned up dozens of threads on the issue.

I just think its a little overboard to lock a thread because the question has already been asked when, as I stated before, 90% of the new threads could be answered by using the search function.

I rememeber Swole used to lock like every third thread before he left.

agreed I love how this site is run ... And I have seen mods let stuff slide and give members the rope and they hang them selves .... So i think the mods do a great job .... IS why i like it here .. also on a note ... My wife visits this board reading up on things and she HAS said that this is one of the cleanest places that i belong to ( meaning afending AVI. laungage ect..)

If they don't want you to start a new thread on a question thats been asked a million times. But if you do search and find an old thread and then bump it for more information about it gets locked too. Your damned if you do your damned if you don't

Like mentioned above.. it depends on the nature of the old thread. Not all old threads bumped are locked.

It's a common sense thing.

Old threads from the era where UGL naming was allowed..containing UGL references (too many to edit).. bumped for the sole reason of a new member wanting to ask about a UGL (which is against the rules anyway).. lockdown.

Old thread.. new members section.. rebumped because a. user didn't read the thread date..and is just trying to get his post count up (like so many of you have done); b. User is trying to start shit with a member.. etc... Lockdown

Members pic forum.. member bumps thread from 2001 to ask a guy who probably doesn't even friggin post anymore what his diet looks like *rolls eyes*..lockdown...

I go on infinately.. Why? Because threads are evaluated on a thread by thread basis.

But course you members won't see that. You just see a power-tripping Mod and a thread with an old date.

The educational forum contains old threads. I see Kale and others responding to questions posted by noobs who take the time to read the threads there. If you could read deleted posts like i can you'd see that the majority of old thread bumps are by noobs wanting to ask for sources.. which too isn't allowed here

FYI... Next time you have a question about how the site is run post a thread in One on one with the staff section. Posting in the lounge just looks like you're whining and trying to get people to jump on your band wagon.

I think raising a valid issue/question that I, and obvsiously other members, have should appropriately be raised in the lounge.

Like I said before, I'm not trying to bash the mods as I think they do a great job overall and I'm sure dont get the thanks they deserve for the time they put into this board.

If you or others have issues with how the site is run post it in One-on-one with the staff. It shouldn't in the lounge. Complaining to each other and not speaking directly to the staff does nothing.

I think all the threads I've seen locked have been justified in doing so. Besides, if a mod deems it necessary to lock it, that should be it. The judges decision is final.

From what I've seen, all the threads that have been locked there is a reason for it.
Either
a) the thread has been addressed/answered/asked multiple times in the recent past
b) the thread had a UGL name etc etc
c) the thread is lame as hell and serves no purpose and the responses are..."I don't get it" ......... "what??" .......... "in b4 the lock" etc.
