I guess to me the most admirable thing a person can do is to do what they love. Doesnt matter if its beeing a solider, stamp collector, mountain climber ect.(with exception offcourse for ****offs like phedophiles and murderers).

Im sure he was just about always in as much controll of the situations as possible. Just think of all the people working with dangerous animals daily and there is relativly few deaths from it.

That is true like I said, but I just feel that some things you love, are not worth dying for.

From what I hear sting rays don't have a deadly reputation (like aligators and crocs) and this particular accident is viewed as a fluke and not due to the poor judgement of this conservationist/entertainer (atleast according to some of the animal experts). Finding something you love which also educates the public and brings attention to the important issues of conservation is even more useful than being a soldier who kill (among other things, innocent woman, children, journalists and sometimes your own people ala "friendly fire" in an unnecesary war that lays waste to resources and life).

Brilliant Mike. I couldn't have put that half way better myself.

I stayed away from this thread for ages, pics of the stingray "stings" seemed a bit morbid and creepy to me. Glad they were removed for whatever reason.

I think to a degree the guy forgot he was a human being with a family.

Much props to him for educating the world on animals. And despite the million to one chance of being killed by a stingray, is this not the same guy who brought his infant son into a pit of crockadiles with him?

Ive seen some of the crap he did. And although i respect some of what he did i dont respect the fact he didnt exercise more common sense towards life in general. Firefighters and cops have moral obligations. What the hell was his obligation? To stick his head in a crockadile? To prove what? That animals arent dangerous? If the ends justify the means than thats an absolute shame, because he got killed by one the media and the rest of the world would deem "safe". He left his wife and children without a father and a husband because he thought he was immortal.

I'm still not convinced he deserves some of the respect you people give him.

He cared more about wildlife than he cared about his own life. I love my dog, i love the squirrels i swerve my car out of the way to not flatten into the road. But is risking my life for no reason a "smart" choice.
He taunted the shit out of crocodiles.
You can CARE about wildlife without sticking your head in thier mouths.
Thats my definition of smart and sane.

But people resect men like Edmund Hillary, Cook, Peary ect. Explorers and adventurers that tossed themself into very dangerous situations in order to explore the world.

Steve just did the same thing with animals...

Seriously man, leave the guy alone. He's dead already. ****, you wanna go study in Australia? Well you better keep your opinions about Steve Irwin to yourself when you're there cause they LOVED that guy there.

"If a man hasn't discovered something that he will die for, he isn't fit to live"

    -Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Well i think Steve Irwin found somehting he would die for, a true passion to him

Just like Jon Pall Simmarson, one of the greatest strongmen off all-time next to Bill Kazmaier in my opinion, died doing what he loved most, and that was deadlifting

totaly agree with this - great post!

life without passion isn't worth living at all............

and how many nature programs did u guys watch b4 steve Irwin came on the scene?

if the guy made 5% of younger people interested in nature, and gave them a sense of respect of the world around us, then the man obviously did his job well!

I never said I didnt like the guy, I dont know anything about him other than the fact he was killed by a stingray and put his baby next to a croccidile.
Yeah i was thinking when I got to Australia I'd wear a shirt that had his face on it and "F*** HIM" under his face
