sorry not sure I know it has to get inspected and get all sorts of things done to make it legal in the states. Its a long and expensive process

i bought my 99 galant for $3,000 wit less than 80K on it.

that car is listed for $9,800. u can buy a much better car than that and dont have to go thru the hassle of gettin it here. my next car will hopefully be an impala. u can get a pretty decent impala for that kinda money.

Vehicles Purchased From Out of the Country
California has special requirements for vehicles imported from other countries (including Canada and Mexico). It may be very costly and in some cases impossible to modify these vehicles to meet California emission requirements and/or federal motor vehicle safety standards. For example, vehicles manufactured to be sold in Europe (gray market vehicles) less than two years old are not legal for registration or use in California.

Call the DMV, best way to be safe
I think paying 10grand for a 16 year old car is rediculous, but I understand they have a cult following. I wouldn't buy it but if you do make sure you consult the dmv first.

Don't forget how much it is going to suck driving around on the wrong side of the car like the f-ing mailman. Parts are going to be stupid expensive and take a long time to get, and a car that old will break from time to time.

Well the r32 and r33 were both built in 1993 but it is listed as a 92 making it a r32. It is also listed as a GTS-T which is a 2.0l turbo I6 producing 212hp. Not a bad car. Is it worth 9.8k ?? No way. Soccer skylines are leaps and bounds above impalas for various reasons. There is no comparison.

212 hp isn't all that much by today's standards. + the interior is kinda cheep cheezy and dated. girls don't know it is some kinda special item, it just looks like an old econobox. Torque is low and you rev that old engine up and guess what, you break it.

I mean that car in the video is much newer than the car you want to buy. Not only that it is the best nissan skyline to date with good handling and a ridiculous ability for obtaining a lot of horsepower.

Thats much nicer exterior wise, but is even older with more miles for near the same price. Regardless of what it looks like and is advertised to be you should always have the car inspected by a mechanic before buying.

That is the stupidest thing ever I have ever heard.
EU regulations on safety and emissions being the most stringent in the world I cannot see why it would not be allowable for the import of say a German manufactured Merc, VW, BMW or a Swedish manufactued Volvo to a US State, apart from the fact the Build quality and spec would be better, makes me ask the question why?

If I see a few boy racer mods on that car, this tells me its probably been driven like a twat by a twat who drives like he has just passed his test and as they say where i come from "all the gea no ida".

Just incase you want to buy this car read this first...

2 types of drivers that can be broken down for further detail.

    City driver:
normally use to slow speeds, or high speeds for short bursts (very bad for the engine). never normally involved in accidents except reversing in to parked cars, kerbing alloys and pulling out infront of oncoming cars.

    Country driver:
Normally are better at handling cars at high speed due to many hours crashing in to hedges on country lanes and learning what is good and bad (trail and error).
Can be bad on large straight roads with high volume of traffic.

Boy racers fall in to both modes of drivers,

City: More body shops in the city is an open ticket to send your car in to get blinged hence, you see more modded cars in the city than in
the country (this does not mean the drivers are better).
You normally find that city boy racers will mod their car more to look better rather than perform better or will do the mods to get the most BHP with the least expense as they have blown all their money on their stereo system, this high powerd mod normally fvcks the engine.

Country: will spend more time under their cars modding them selfs and trying to get the best performance and handling out of them.
Many boy racers in the country are pretty handy with a spanner and will do many engine mods them selfs like adding throttle bodies, boring out the cylinders or porting the head/s etc. replacing the Gear box, wheel bearings, suspension bushes, strutts.
you rarely see country boyracers will spend money on a new stainless steel exhaust back box for that nice lil note you get of them, you will however see them spending money for a complete system as you can get a good 5% HP increase forma decent manifold and exhaust, you hardly ever find that boy racers from the country spending time and money on the body or interior.

You would be much better off looking round and finding one that has no mods at all. That goes for all cars not just R32's. If you want to look like a tool you can get a car with trim etc, body work is not hard if you got a artistic flare, all it is is plastic trim and some isopon. If i were you id use that money to get a decent car that is standard.

If you want to get an import why dont you go for a Subaru WRC? or if you want a little more reliablity go for an Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IV or later if you got the money but the evo4 looks the best? they dont require mods and you normally find that if people have thrashed them they end up in the hedge on their roof. If you can get one with no filler or dents in the body and NO EXTRA MODS you know its been looked after.

    Things to look for:
    Gear box:
city drivers are a little harder on the transmission than country drivers, they change gear alot more becasue of traffic lights etc, check the mesh on the gear box, if its loose, could mean its on the way out (expensive) if its tight probably means its on the way out but been played with to make it feel ok, it may be just the selector is gone, but it may mean the gear box is near to going. selectors arent much of a problem, gear boxes can be.

Brakes: they ware more than normall in cities, you tend to see city drivers with manual cars coast in neutral when approaching red lights, this makes the breaks ware alot more than normal, Ceck the disks for signs of warping or exsessive ware, or discoulouration, this can indicate excessive breaking. If there are hareline cracks in the disk this can mean that the breaks have been applied too hard, this can mean that the master cylinder has been under strain, not good.
If hte breaks feel hard that can mean the brake servo is not working or the master cylinder is broken, if it has ABS that may mean the sensors ar gone.

you see city drivers more often than not that they dip the clucth and coast that way while feathering the brake, this means that the clutch is getting alot more ware than it ever should, depending on the engine and car the cluch can be a pain, if it blows when driving will cost you cos you will need a tow truck also you have to get it replaced which if you cannot do yourself is not cheap at all.

    Check the clutch:
if it bites low down that is fine, if it bites high up will point to the fact it is worn and probably close to going. To check its tension, drive away in first gear, then change to a high gear like 4th or 5th at 15 mph. then put your foot to the floor. the car will be labouring but will pick up speed slowly, if it starts to rev and does not pick up speed that means the clutch is fvcked, leave there.

Check the barings: grab the wheels and pull them latterally, this will show if the bainrgs are gone. if there is play there that means they are. same in direction of travel, put the car in gear and apply the hand brake. rock the car forwards n backwards, if you see the play in the wheels in that direction probably means the anti roll bar is broken or the bushes are gone.

look at the wear on the tyres:
if its a city driver they may have been in a head on accident at some time.
if they tyres have uneaven ware on them LEAVE IT ALONE, get the guy who owns it to take it down the road with you watching, if it looks like the back end is out more than the front when he is going in a straight line, LEAVE ALONE!!!!!
You dont want to assume it is down to a worn bush or bent anti-roll bar.

what every you buy dont buy a car that is modded unless its a decent guy who has done it, but at that price id say it aint. with moded cars you normally find they ahve been sprayed, this makes it hard to tell if its been on a jog and been fixed because of the spray. if you see an unmodded car that has been sprayed you can do well to assume it has been in a smash.

If you buy cheap you buy often, but if you go to a boy racer trust me, you will be sorry... i know many of whom have passed on mint looking cars that are in reality on their last legs only to have phone calls the followign week from a very unimpressed new (shagged) car owner!

I was just on craigslist today (looking for new car) and I saw a silvia. It is a good shape. But, it needs the motor put it. it DOES have the motor, and it runs, the guy said he would even put it back in for 500 bucks, but he is only charging 1,500 for the car. It looks alot like that skyline. For 1500, and being in the states, it is a better shot than one for 9000 in canada
