Customs officers seized 750 pounds of headless rats destined for London eateries frequented by Africans who consider rats a delicacy, according to the Daily Mail.

The rats were being smuggled from Ghana and were found at Tilbury Docks in London when officials inspecting a shipment of synthetic hair discovered the giant cane rats, which had been smoked to improve their taste.

Experts say the unrefrigerated meat could carry diseases such as foot-and-mouth, anthrax, the Ebola virus, tuberculosis and cholera, the Daily Mail reported.

A 42-year-old West African woman was arrested in connection with the crime.

Is it illegal to import rat meat? It's just an animal. It's not like they're endangered or anything.

I think rat meat is called purae or something, eating rats is widly done..if the rats are bread (clean rats) as opposed to eating rats out of the sewer, then it's just another type of meat.
