And no offense. But to the idiot (4got who) who said you can get dropped by not showing to the first day of class. (which sounded like complete rubbish)

I asked my counselor and she said 'professors do not have the authority to drop a student period'.

A student can not show for 6 classes straight and they still are not taken off the roster till THEY (the student drops the class) not the professor.
Maybe this is just NJ but I never even heard any crazy shit like that happening here before.

A professor can not drop you no matter what, unless your caught cheating in that case it is an administrative withdraw.
