    I always work out alone, did for a year. Made good gains, then gains stopped. I couldn't push myself properly. I only like having a friend in the gym to spot me on bench, or shoulder press. Pretty much just help with unracking and re-racking. I don't need them for anything else. Plus they can't keep up to my pace.

    Spotters are good, I've blown through some strength plateaus in the last couple weeks working with a spotter.
