Is that whole rule of thumb that the body can't absorb more than 30g (or whatever amount you've heard) of protein in one sitting have any truth to it? Is there a known general limit to the amount that can be absorbed by the body in one sitting?

a question that remains unanswered - theories abound - no proof either way..
There is no reason to believe that your body wouldnt absorb the protein that you put in it. It just may be difficult to digest all at once
The highest amount I have ever seen in a paper is 60 grams at once. Thats not to say that its the upper limit, It just means that it is the highest amount i have personally seen in the scientific literature to date.
Jimmy's comment is probably the best answer your going to ever get on the subject at this point in time.
Excessive protein intake over a period of time can lead to leaky gut syndrome, by the description it doesn't sound too fun.
^^^yeah no disrespect but the jury is def still out on that one bro.......
WHAT DO YOU MEAN NO DISRESPEKT? j/k
Well let me ask, do you have any data/literature to say otherwise?
What ever protein that is not absorbed is stored as fat at the time its being absorbed. But in my opinion, bodymass and bodyfat has to be a factor in the amount you can use, I have herd 35g to 55g every 3 hours.
What are the views of doctors in the medical field?I think he is referring to the fact that its a view of alternative medicine practitioners rather than western medical doctors.
I would venture to say you can absorb more upwards to 40-50g of protein but keep in mind all proteins aren't the same. Proteins take different times to be fully absorbed so you have to look at what you are taking in to get a better judgment. In the end, you should be spreading out your meals anyway so this shouldn't be much of a concern.
Many doctors in the medical field will tell you high protein diets and lots of protein are very hard on the liver and should be avoided. I take in and respect what doctors say but be sure to do your own research as well. With all gathered information you can make logical assumptions but doctors are not always the best people to go to when supplements/diet is concerned.
Good to know, I read up on it briefly had no idea it was some homeopathic idea that some naturalist hippy came up with. That there is no such syndrome, Its more of a naturalpathic medicine idea.
I had an argument with someone that told me you can only absorb up to 30g of protein at any time. All they had to go with was that they saw it in their text book .![]()
Well I think everyone is different and it varies... not everyone is going to be the same and only be able to absorb 30g of protein.
Everyone reacts different to various substances.
