Qucik Question - Bone Heal Time / Pain

Ok It has been several years since I have posted here... lost my username/pass ;/

Ok I broke my ankle pretty bad on my motorcycle over 3 years ago... I have been able to do some lifting but never without pain... I am about up to a normal workout now. Diet and cardio...

My question is when will I be able to start working out if ever? Anyone break their ankle 6+ places ever and what and how long did you have to go?

I am nervous to go into lifting hard but I am gaining weight... the wrong type. I am walking about 1 mile a day but cannot stand to run... the pressure on the ankle makes me grimace in pain. The elliptical hurts even more...

The doctor keeps telling me time and therapy... but $$ is running thin and my patience with it...

Looking for advice, not an easy way out but what other people have endured and from their own personal experiences.

    Thanks
    Big Sull

I shattered my calcaneus and completely extruded my talus, it's been six months, range of motion is very little and the pain and stiffness is pretty bad, I feel your pain. I walk every day and ride a bicycle, can't do alot of leg exercises and have to be careful with my lifting. Deca seems to have helped, I've taken it thru the whole ordeal, so far my bones are not showing signs of breaking down which is the biggest worry right now.

If I can find a picture on my comp I will post it up...

But the tib/fib shattered and the joint it self shattered...separated achillies tendion, and 4 screws 3 plates and 14 pins ;/ I was flipping on my head and my ankle kept slapping the ground ;/ I don't remember much of the accident other than the hot nurses ha!

So your actually takin some while on recover? I suppose after being laid up for so long my outlook kinda changed... I dunno why my bones broke like they did but he said the density was there, he said they were actually really dense and that it must have been a blunt force... (yeah 60mph motorcycle wreck)

Whats your #s that your takin of dec? If you don't mind me asking... Not that I am thinking about going back that route but pain pills are not helping... hell I got a wobble when I walk now.. if I place a weighted belt on that side it evens out my walk believe it or not.

So I suppose no one else has broken an ankle?

Just was looking for advice in what steps you took to get back on your feet.

My leg has shrunk to about 1/2s it orignal size and I have been trying to work out w/ it...

This is what I am doing:

30mins - Morning rubber band stretches with ankle.
    Left,Right,Forwards,Backwards (15 mins each)
    1mile - Brisk Walk/Jog - 15 ~ 20mins varies due to pain.
    20min - Elliptical
    20min - Stair Stepper
    4-15 - Calf raises wt:45-45-55-65
3-10 - Lunges wt:HIGHLY varies on pain. Cannot drop knee well and balance is weak.
3-5 - Squat wt: again varies on pain, usually light weights.

I know no pain no gain.. But seriously, tightness and the swelling never stops.

    my stature:
    Now...
    6'2
    220

    Then:
    6'2
    201

Gaining weight fast. Diet is mediocre. Still eat a lot of snacks through out the day mostly fruit/veg/chicken.. my appetite is still really high, I suppose from eating all the time...

My leg isn't getting better and I was just asking for advice. Any help would be appreciated.

I've been on taking between 200-300 mg's a week the whole time. Was also taking low dose of test, 250mgs a week. Just upped the test to 500 two weeks ago since I've been back in the gym.

Thanks for your input! Sorry about my delay in response. I have been hitting the gym more and more now.

Sauna and walking and I have cut down about 6-10 pds... I am flux because of water weight...

Pain is still very much there... It has been two years come this summer since the damage. I posted a lot here asking for help as well as other sites last year...

But I have moved up 10 pounds in calf raises and that is a huge improvement for me... the weight I am at now is half of what I use to due but it is not bringing tears to my eyes... Thats when I went to the doctor a couple weeks ago...

Apparently how the bone is healing the nerves are not in the same area and have extended... So not only is my foot cold? It is extra sensitive to pain but I don't feel it if you thump it? Odd I know but the ankle is the only area the pain stops at the foot is numb and cold...

    Thanks again!
