    dextrose vs. simple sugars

could i simply save money and add simple carbs (EI: sugar) to my protein and yeild the same effect as dextrose? thoughts???

i know both supplements are fairly cheap, i was just wondering if it was the same thing?

and also, for PWO nutrition, should it be split up in a 2:1 ratio of carbs (sugar) to protein?

You don't need either of those especially if you plan on cutting.

You will get adequate recovery without the use of sugar postworkout.

    Can you elaborate on this?
I, like thousands of others, was under the impression it was good to have sugar post workout, however, I am always willing to learn new things and keep an open mind!
    Cheers.

My wording of saying useless was wrong, more or less unneccessary. I've been through this arguement before, just read this thread.

I think that it would be up to personal preference. Meaning that Im a little up in bf compared to most guys here so sugar is a huge mistake for me. So if youre one of the guys who has a bf under 12% then maybe sugar is ok for pwo.....just my 2 cents....

    Thanks for the link.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the final post on the thread, made by Swifto, has information from a study -funded by Gatorade no less, lol- which concluded that ingestion of carbohydrates along with protein pre and post workout increased insulin levels which "lead to a more favorable anabolic post-workout environment".

    So... anyway...

The kind of training I do, I feel the dextrose -and waxy- is beneficial to me post workout. And there seems to be evidence that it is.

    Cheers.

Taking in some type of carbs is a good thing after working out. This is because it influences the release of insuline which in turn makes your liver create IGF-1 which makes your muscles recover and makes them grow. Just my .02

dextrose is not sugar. sugar is sucrose, a disaccharide made up of glucose and fructose.
Dextrose is a high gi monosacchride
