Go for minimally processed sources like oats, sweet potato, beans, lentils, and whole grain rice for pre-workout and really, in general. The only time simple/fast carbs are truly justifiable is post-workout but a bagel (90+ on GI index) with PB is stupid. There's no protein there. Also, combining fat with an insulin spike of that nature isn't the best idea, even PWO. A better option would be a shake with vitargo, maxy maize, or something like that, directly PWO and then back to lean protein, slow carb meals following that for the rest of the day. Also, if you're cutting, there should be no "fast" carbs eaten at all really.
