My thoughts on Forum Changes and Improvements. What do you think?

I have an idea that would also keep the conversation about sourcing in one place and can be monitored easier:

When a person hits 50 posts, he will have access to a simi-private forum where you can ask questions **WHILE FOLLOWING ALL RULES** This will not only keep people from posting 3 posts and get into a serious discussion, but it will show that a person is here for more than just a quick membership. The rules would still be quite strict on certain areas, but it will be monitored very closely by our staff and it will be kept in order, or action will be taken.

REPUTATION idea has been swept.... We (the staff) will select members as they become active and supportive of the site and will be given titles (instead of rep points) as one of the following: (dont freak about titles... just an example)

Knowledgeable Member
or
Helpful Member

This will allow all visitors and members to see who has a reputation for being helpful or knowledgeable.

I think we should pick or it be more then 50 post, thats when they can do a source check so the vip section should take more. Maybe have a list of members that want to be in the vip, then we choose whom and when, this way it doesnt get overloaded at once.

Its not illegal to discuss a steroid source on the internet. LE dont go after long steroid user's, they go after dealers and the big fish. I wouldnt worry.

Plent of members post on open source boards and they get more heat than this place.

If your concerned, get a proxy and change your screename.

I see that Matt said it will never become a source board. Which I think is good.

While it may not be illegal to discuss where to get drugs, it will rise the profile of the site for the wrong reasons, and make sources easier to target by law enforcement. I am not concerned for myself (I don't know any sources and don't ask for sources), and don't need to change my screen name...I was honestly expressing my opinion about the perception of the forum by others.

I think it should be more than 50 posts. It should be an amount that they can't just grind out in a day by posting rubbish and one word comments in threads. Seriously, it should be 200. It would be a reward for actually being a member of the community, not just a person that swoops in, make 50 useless posts and is never seen again.

AGREE completely. Isn't the goal is to keep members around by contributing? Not simply to come on and grab and go away. Many do this already. Think of how many will do this with just 50 posts.

I think a VIP/get section might want to be a bit different than a 50 post minimum. Peoplechill just go to the lounge and increase post count just to get to that status. The idea of discussing quality and sources should come from resPected knowledgeable users. If this is not controlled or limited it can just turn into an out of control section and counter productive. Maybe a vet lounge and a source discussion as two different areas. Source area having less requirements than a vet area. It can all work depending on what your goals are with it. Just my 2 cents

Also if we have a vip forum theres nothing that says it can't be used for more advance discussions...

I think it's all relevant to how you set up rules too. If we start talking ugl than there are a lot at risk to consider.

i agree, more posts, ive had one member recently admit to me in pm that they were only here for a source check and trying to get their post count up to get info.

I know with some forum software (not sure about vBulletin) you can have sections of the site invisible until you hit a certain post count, or subscribe (or are admitted) to the section. That would be awesome for the section you are talking about. Unless, or course, it will be for staff only. New people won't even know about it, which would be a huge blessing. If you are annoyed by the same posts over-and-over, wait until half the posts are, "I can't get into the source section!!!!!!" Then someone will tell them they need 200 posts, and they will sit there and grind them out. Ugh, what a nightmare.

Seems pretty clean, but while staff will be able to cover a lot... I don't think it can encompass all ugl. Just a ton out there and a big board like this can cause staff to be burdened. I would say staff as an authority on what they speak to on this matter, but no way that staff has tried all sources..,plus the constant changes.

Touchy subject for sure, but also a good one. This is how we look out for each other and keep the community safe.

Could be a huge liability with openly telling someone in cyberspace something is good or not with a paper trail plus search engines would pick up on it so fast and link tons here to read the latest scoop and before ya know it the site becomes something else entirely.

I have by no means tried all ugl's but for years ive monitored almost all ugls and have access to secure feed back on all known ugls.....

good point. As long as there is a disclaimer of some sort to make sure the advisors are not open to any scrutiny what so ever....

have to be careful here SA. I may not have the pro experience like a marcus, but to a certain extent, i am a business pro, licensed in a few different areas. Let me just bring up a point and you can mull it over. It could be the case that once a member's status has changed, and is now acting on behalf of the board, expressing an opinion could be viewed as the opinion of the board itself. So we want to make sure that there is some consistancy with what some of us are saying in public.
