I did one in April and we are doing the KY one in Oct.
They are fun. Not really that hard if you are/were an athlete. Worst part is the 10,000 volt shocking. Monkey bars and rings were tough mostly because your wet and freezing cold so it's hard to grip. The Artic Enema was rough that water is amazingly cold

I don't understand how people don't finish. But it's a great experience every helps everyone.

Didn't know you were a Marine. Thanks for your service.

I want to do one but don't think I have the stamina. I have friends who have done it and loved it. Pictures are great. Everyone gets covered in mud and there's a mountain pile of shoes at the end of the event. I'm jealous and want to do one.

Hey I hope you can get some from here who live nearby to go run with you. Take some pics too and post them. And if it goes over well it might be able to turn into a yearly event. Eh who knows?
PS I can see it now our very own AR Run-A-Thon...

I can't image "outfits" for tough mudder! I saw some crazy costumes for warrior dash tho....too funny!

I know I can't do the TM alone and I don't think I will have too : ) Just need to market this to the right peeps!

Actually not a bad idea to recruit military types. I will not run alone - this is certain.

I will have to train for this and I appreciate the support. Once I decide to do something, it is gonna happen. I just need to figure out the venue, since I have options. I know I can't do it this year : (

passing on free advice from OP (a guy) who recently did the Tough Mudder....for what it is worth!!!!

trail runs prior to the event; he was running 9 miles prior to event and said a treadmill wasn't good enuff
take that wide silver tape (I can't remember the name...but a man's man knows what I mean) to wrap around your shoes so they don't come off. lots of thick mud / muck and some lost there sneakers.
neophrene (sp?) wraps for the knees...lots of crawling
he took gloves but ditched them about 2 miles in cuz they got wet and heavy
he said I shouldn't worry if I have to go alone because others will help me ( I can't scale a 12 - 14 foot wall - I am much less then 6 ft tall) - he said someone would throw me over it or just hoist me up while someone grabbed me at the top) THANK GOD...I couldn't figure out how to do this alone.
He didn't have any problem with hyothermia, but then again, there is a at least a 70 lb spread between me and him...so I expect to be uncomfortable...
shock wires...depends on where u get hit...in the ear, throat will put ya down...he didn't get thrown down to the ground by them, but others did
Unlike other events, mostly serious folks show up and don't have as many problems with what I will call "fatties"
he said there is some and even a lot of waiting at obstacles, so time to recover...yayyyyyy

lastly he said it wasn't as tuff as he anticipated (this guy is very fit and does alot of cardio....i see with his gf/wife in spinning class frequently they lift also

if anyone else wants to share their secrets, please jump in....

did one last weekend.. it was a 5k, but on a ski hill so pretty put together all in all.. the wife and I did it together..

one of the obstacles was an wall my wife could not reach i gave her a boost up but she then stalled so i put my hand on her butt and shoved her over she and the others around us were very surprised, but i do big shoulder presses so it really wasnt' that much effort, then stepped back 1 step and jumped pulled myself up.. volleyball will do that for ya..

My recommendation is do the cardio on the stair master for 2 weeks if your cardio is lacking then the last 2 weeks before the event train outside rain or shine on hills if possible, stopping at playgrounds to do monkey bar and pull ups thats what i had the wife do anyway..

300 leg presses to 90 degree with 1.5x your body weight.. your stamina will be just fine..
