@Perseverance, I went to one of those "half moon parties", was never around when a full moon was in bloom unfortunately! I wouldn't mind going back to the islands some day though...

@Marcus, how'd you find it and how did the locals find you!

Did any of you guys have any problems with corruption out there?

I liked it but didn't really feel safe, didn't drink wanted my wits about me that night.

I'm very big in comparison to Thai's so I get a lot of attention.

Had to give a few quid to the police in Bangkok because he said that's what happens around here, so I small contribution was handed over. Just landed aswell so didn't really feel like arguing the toss over 2 quid.

During my travels, you meet a lot of people. On the island met this one bloke that said the police did a random search on his cabin. No problem he thought, however when shaking his bed sheets, a joint mysteriously appeared. He had to give them a bribe there and then. And this was down on one of the islands.

Definitely have to keep your wits about you over there. Did they have that ruby scam thing going when you were there? It's been awhile since I was last there, but that was the current one, buy a load of rubies (cheap glass), take it home and sell it for huge profit! lol

I think he gave them something like 40 american dollars, which over there is a fortune. He was on his own which made him a target. I hooked up with a coupla girls when I got there and shared a place with them. Safety in numbers..

Yeah...their prison system is pretty scary. I watched a documentary on it recently and it 100% ended all thoughts of me doing any sort of rec drug while over there.....just not worth the risk man.

Yup the Bangkok Hiltion would not be a place I would want to visit.

On one of my visits I stayed about 1 block from the Bangkok international gem area and visited quite a few shops. It's strange seeing these little shops with double security doors side by side all with an armed guard standing on the outside and inside literally buckets of gem. I was asked several times how many pounds I wanted. lol

Most if not all the GEM stores are Government owned. This is usually the first place a "Pink" Taxi will take you so they can get their fuel ration card stamped

Either I have my wits about me or im just lucky cause ive never had too much dodgy stuff happen to me, except in Nepal. But this is what this guy told me, so who is to say. I know down on the islands I personally didn't experience any problems with the law, though it wouldn't surprise me in the least if that kind of stuff did happen.
