    According to the website listed above, White Rice has a GI of 89 and Brown Rice has a GI of 50

    I also noticed on that chart that there is a difference between Yams and Sweet Potatoes. Aren't they the same thing?

    Not exactly, but they're closely related as far as I know.

    They are part of a different genus. They can look similar but are very different in taste and texture (from my experience) although they are both tubers which a normal potato is not.

    They are, I believe, a staple in Africa.
