When I've ran carbless in the past, as backwards as it sounds, I was in a surplus without carbs, and gained lbm. Substantially actually. However during this bulk I ate carbs and occasionally do a fast, typically on off days, and I've not noticed any lack of growth. I feel like as long as you aren't in an EXTREME caloric deficit for an extended period of time, lbm loss will b minimal.
