Nice combo I keep a glock .40 in the night stand and a 870 tactical 12 gauge under the bed. Shotgun is easier for the wife, she doesn't have to worry about her aim as much.

I don't condone gun ownership for everyone. Clearly there are many idiots who should never wield a gun. We had a young member here once flaunting the fact he took random shots at someone on the highway who pissed him off. That's NOT the kind of responsible ownership we are talking about. Drawing a gun should be the last alternative, not first, I'll agree with you there. Once you draw a gun you've escalated the situation (potentially), so IMO it should be the last thing you do.

Most people opposed to guns see guns as the problem. Ok then, I guess every misinformed person who thinks steroids are harmful and should remain illegal and those using them prosecuted to the fullest, is right? Never mind that there are responsible anabolic users who cycle properly and don't abuse them. Let the abusers be representative of all users and agree steroids are bad. Steroids aren't bad when used carefully, correctly, and responsibly. Guns aren't specifically the problem; it's the irresponsible idiots who go around waving them as they please.

Do you have kids? Do you lock your liquor cabinet? Do you lock your medicine cabinet. Do you hide your car keys. Are the kitchen knives locked up?

Responsible gun owners don't leave loaded guns for children to play with and those raised with guns in the home must be educated on gun safety - as my 13 year old is.

My guns aren't loaded (magazines are), the guns have a trigger lock. When my young kids (3 & 7) visit (they live with my ex) ALL guns are stored away.

We teach our kids not to talk to strangers. We teach them to avoid drugs. We keep them safe and away from dangers as much as possible. Why not educate them to RESPECT a firearm.

No. Neither own or wanted one. 65% of males in my family are LE so some had police issued hand guns. I fired a few with my relatives but in general guns scared the hell out of me until I learned how to shoot and field strip.

Other than my father, no one in my family back in Canada knows I own guns. Most would disapprove.

Most legal gun owners not only are educated on how to use a gun safely as well as store it they also practice the safety in other life aspects such as actually locking up perscription meds. I keep ALL my prescriptions in my gun safe.

When I grew up I had full access to several firearms and loads of ammo. All of my friends did as well. Not a single one of them shot up a school or a mall. None of them killed themselves or anyone else. My daughter was raised around guns (although she never developed an interest). She had access to loaded guns from an early age.

I still don't see how having guns and ammo with children in the home assumes a tragedy will occur. Children die in pools, car accidents, chocking on small objects.....hell a child misusing a treadmill could be life threatening. Should we ban all these things? Keep them out of vehicles? No, of course not. Now, one could bring in population statistics in the argument perhaps showing gun related accidents involving children is higher than vehicular injuries. Fair enough, I'll grant you that. Again, the problem isn't guns, it's parenting. If you are leaving loaded guns around with children to young to appreciate the threat and potential fatality, it's parental neglect and ignorance, not guns, causing the problem.
