LVH: left ventricular hypertrofy.Is it a real issue?

Hello folks, as title, i've read many connections to LVH and steroids use. Some studies state that this issue could happen among steroids users even if steroid use is cycled for short-term period but repeated in time, so, for long-term period ( accumulating steroids cycles in years) even using low dosages of gear. I don't know if this could be reliable, and so, i'd like to know what veterans think and know it about.

yes i know, but not in the same dangerous effect. LVH that occurs with steroids seems to be more life threating.

simply. More decreased heart efficiency.

how so? Enlarged from steroids (if that can be ascertained-because if you took steroids and didnt train would it result in an enlarged left ventricle?) or enlarged from resistance training, how is the heart efficiency any different?

I actually was wondering, if it could be exists some suggestions related steroids use, to prevent or lowering the risk, to develop LVH. I'm not going to become mr. olympia neither a pro, but i wouldn't risk to get a LVH ( i mean a dangerous LVH for heart efficiency ) in early age....

All the more reason to get a full Stress echocardiography. I had one done a few years ago and everything is g2g.

What if you HAVE LVH already even if not a bodybuilder but just a normal guy, weight lifter or anyone who is active? Either way it's good to know if you have a problem or prone to have one. I think more times than not these issues like LVH are pre existing but people dont know until it's to late. As the study says, steroids may potentiate concentric left ventricular hypertrophy. That's pretty vague IMO but again I think it's best to know instead of being worried or paranoid.

Sure. I think monitoring and detecting it, in a native state, could be easily manageable to stop it to going on to become life threating. I think, this is what you mean. Furthermore, it should be detected in a non-critical state in order to do not force the user to stop not just steroids but every physical activity...

Exactly because that is when it becomes most apparent, during strenuous activities and of course (hopefully) steroid users are pushing their bodies to the limit.

My co worker had a heart attach a few years ago due to left ventricular dysfunction because he had lost a lot of weight in a short period of time for a class reunion and then gained it back right after. I had actually warned him it was a BAD idea to try to crash diet. The worst part is after he promised to get in shape and not let it happen again he is now probably 50 lbs heavier than he was before and ever once in a while he will talk about going on a crash diet because of some family reunion or function coming up. I just remind him of what happened before and tell him to first make sure his will is signed over to me.

Some people never learn.

I think there are some test that should be mandatory at certain ages such as full Stress echocardiography at 40+ Full liver and kidney ultrasound also at that age to check for gallstones, cancer and such. We need a lot more preventative doctor visits and less break/fix visits.

The biggest risk factor for LVH is hypertension, particularly the diastolic portion. Keep your eye on that bottom number. The higher it is, the harder the left ventricle must contract to eject blood into the aorta.
