I wanted to pose this question to the forum: Do you do deadlifts on leg or back day?
I do deadlifts when I train back
I do deadlifts when I train legs
I don't do deadlifts because of a medical issue
I don't do deadlifts because they hurt

Back day. You can do stiff leg DL with legs.
But if you are training hard it's very difficult to do both DL and squats on the same day
Legs I have a squat deadlift day once a week then wait min three days before doing back..
what do your legs look like?Originally Posted by KINGKONG
Back day. I do straight leg deadlift on leg day sometimes.
Its a back day for me, just because it kills my back so much more than my legs
I can guestimate ~ 5:1 ratio Back:legs damage from deads for me.
Also, it drains the hell out of me, at least two days no gym post deads
Deads on back day....typically last lift of the routine.
Stiff leg deads on leg day every other week
Deads on back day, straight leg deads or romanian deads on leg day with concentration on glutes and hams.
I Dont do deads for back, I have short legs, long torso and strong lower back, dont think I need it.
"Almost" stiff legs deadlift on stand, close to touching my feet, for my hammies. Really get DOMS on hams from it.
When you split up your posterior chain(low back glutes & hams) and quads on a different day - I do them on posterior chain day and we'll also split them between back and quad day doing conventional deficit deads on posterior chain day and sumo the following etc - but before this routine I'd do them on back day and finish with them(now I'm training a little different) and size and strength & thickness all went up -- I also do lots of good mornings so I feel my low back is strong but still gets torched since splitting my legs up(low back glutes hams then quads) made much better gains
Stiff legged w/DBs on stand for further ROM ^ as said above hammers your hams & glutes(heavy will put that lower back in some nice pain too)![]()

I have for a long time been thinking about switching it from leg to back day. I really enjoy doing deadlifts. Its my strongest lift, so I enjoy doing it, which makes me do it more, which makes it stronger, etc. You all know the cycle.
I'm doing Yates blood n guts right now so incorporating deads on both leg and back day. I go a little lighter and rep in the higher range on leg day. All in on back day. I didn't vote on the poll because both wasn't an option.
You could do them on either really but I do mine on LEG day.
If I remember right Yates only went down to mid shin to take his legs out of it. I believe they were his last lift on back day. Saw him on you tube, impressive
None, split legs to anterior one day posterior the next like BG talks about that is very helpful and has been a huge boost from my training. So obviously do deads on posterior leg days.

Check out post 10 lol - I saw how BG split is quads/low back/glutes/hams(posterior chain) as did my trainer about 6months ago(last 3wks been out due to ventral hernia infected opening) and my legs really made improvements in short time
We do lots of volume and very heavy days... Basically Powerbuilding which I'm becoming to really enjoy!
yeah, I actually skip over his post cause it's mostly worthless anyway lolOriginally Posted by NACH3

I actually did end up switching them to back day, it does help a lot. Plus I put them at the end of the routine instead of the beginning, which is counter to what I generally do. I typically put the big, multi-joint movements with the heaviest weight first, but I found out real quick if I do that with deads on back day there isn't nearly as much left in the tank for rows, pull downs, pull ups, etc. Since I can use my hams for an assist it doesn't make as much difference as say, putting bench press last on chest day would (for me anyway).
I like to switch them up weekly. So one week i will do conventional deadlifts as part of a back routine and the next week i wont do any deadlifts for back, mostly weighted pullups and things like that, and on the second week I will do Sumo deadlifts during legs. just find a different "compound lift" for the weeks your arnt doing deadlifts on that body part.
deadlift is my heviest lift.
I do on back day (mostly tuesday) last exercise 5reps x 5sets
and on leg day (mostly saturday) 2nd exercise 5reps x 5sets
... so twice a week with the same heavy weight all reps and sets
Theres no way id be able to deadlifts on leg day and get the full potential out of the lift but thats just me

Stiff leg deadlifts hit the hamstrings the most.
FYI: the spinal erectors are not the lower back. They run up the length of your spine. More like your middle inner back.
Depends on my mood but If I really want to do DLs on back day, I will do rack pulls to get more of an isolation. Otherwise its a push, through the legs.
If you want them to target legs, try using dumbbells and placing a plate between your feet to keep you stable. Do it SL and move more to your body. I find that this works better than any other way for me.
