OP, unless you're morbidly obese, keto is a poor option if you're on gear. Then again you shouldn't be on gear if you're obese, much less even a little overweight.
Why is keto a poor choice on gear? Not arguing, simply asking for the science behind it so I understand because it is a diet plan that works incredibly well for me for calorie restricted phases, just not that experienced with it on gear and while attempting lean gains/retention

It's an "OK" choice if you're cutting. It's possible to have an effective ketogenic cycle while cutting, however it's likely that your training will suffer a bit compared to a cut that includes 100g+ of CHO. Unfortunately ketones pale in comparison to glycogen when it comes to strength training. Taking a hit to training intensity, strength output, and endurance are enough to suggest a keto setup is far from ideal.

It's a poor choice for a bulk. A ketogenic diet does not elicit enough of an insulin response to keep MPS elevated and/or high enough to take advantage of bulking on gear. It's the furthest thing from optimal actually. It's like if you had decided to do a Test/Dbol/Deca bulking cycle but without a caloric surplus, while keeping proteins low and consuming your food within only 1-2 meals.

Can it work. Maybe a little. But why would you take the chance if you're taking the chance of being on cycle?
