Most pros from the 70s don't speak very much or very openly about their steroid use. It is documented that Arnold called dianabol the "breakfast of champions," but otherwise he claims he only used steroids for dieting during competition to avoid muscle catabolism.

When you hear the kind of cycles these guys were doing, you have to doubt the honesty of their accounts. Some of the cycles I remember hearing about don't even make any sense. They were so mild they would only suppress natural testosterone levels, while providing less androgen than is naturally produced. That would be a muscle loss cycle.

Naturally, I don't doubt that the pros of the 70's used less gear than today's pros.
