Unless you have a crooked doctor who would prescribe proscar for the intended purpose, i dont believe insurance will cover propecia or avodart.

And CarbonCopy, i would like to see any research you have showing that finasteride or dutasteride grows any hair back. That is great that you got yours back, just wondering about research.... From my understanding, minoxidil is the only compound proven to regrow hair.

Vette - there are phase 2 fda trials which are small clinical trials that showed hair regrowth. One of their main pictures that they displayed showed very good vertex fill in. I will look for the study. I agree with CC. Used 1.25 mg proscar for 5 years and kept what I had. Avodart for 13 months and hair is noticably thicker all over. I did not have any of my hair line grow back, it stayed in the same place but hair got thicker from the line back.

Also I am not condoning this but, avodart has only been approved for BPH. The drug companies have not yet flagged it as having a cosmetic use. If you get a doc to perscribe it to you for Baldness prevention you should have no problem just paying your insurance copay. I even had an online doc mark the perscription as "for male pattern baldness". The pharmacist must have not read that part but he did ask me why I was taking something for BPH when I was only 32 at the time. I told him it was an "off label perscription for Male Pattern Baldness". He said, "Hmm it works like propecia, I can see that". Magically I got it for my copay (30-.5mg gelcaps)when it is normally $72 at sams club which is one of the cheaper places.
