    If someone said “I don’t believe you could jump off this building and live,” would you do it? Squatting and deadlifting will damage your back, hips, and knees, so save up for surgery and be prepared to be a cripple when you’re older. There is nothing healthy about compressing your spine. What will it matter when it hurts to do anything and you can’t even sleep?


    I see a lot of younger guys that are like you, sub 200 lbs and hardly look like they even lift, yet there they are squatting and deadlifting all day. It’s a joke to me.

    There’s nothing healthy about anything that most of us do. Force-feeding for growth directly shortens lifespan by several biological feedback loops. Loading any of the joints repeatedly to failure (or close) inevitably leads to breakdown over the years. I know just as many bodybuilders with fucked up backs, shoulders and elbows as powerlifters.
    Let’s not even discuss what comes with the drugs that most of us use.

    We all have poisons. It’s just a matter of which you prefer the taste of.

    it's a little different than jumping of a building this is something I wanted and was told it's not going to happen that's just going to make me try harder and if it gets too rough on my body I'll just call it quits and change direction. I know a few people who squat and deadlift almost every day and barley look like they lift that's not what I want, I want to be big and strong as fuck. As far as being a cripple hopefully the drugs kill me first.

    (And coming from someone who hurt his shoulder doing DB militaries with a reported 115 lbs none-the-less....)

    Squats and deadlifts done properly will only make you stronger in the long haul IMHO.

    If you do anything as hard as you can you will pay the price.

    But you can do it moderately and be ok.

    OP is talking about 500 lbs. I’m on amazon right now about to buy a hex bar so I can do deadlifts and semi-squats at home. I’m not against them complete. This is all within the context of OP trying to deadlift 500 lbs. I’ll deadlift up to 2 45’s on each, and same with squats. I can gain 90% of the size I want using just that. I’ve read that leg muscles grow well on high repetitions.

    The fact that I messed my shoulder up was how I threw up the dumbbell with my knee. I twisted my shoulder during that motion, and still did 10 reps without putting it down, then a drop set and 4 other exercises.

    But to make my point - yes, it was stupid and I am no longer going to be doing that. We live we learn. However, our legs and backs are something we use all the time. You can live with a bad shoulder. You can’t walk with a bad knee/hip/back. It’s a whole different ball game.

    I pulled 500 lbs on a deadlift almost a year ago it's a 500 squat I'm going for now. The thought of a serious injury scares me a little bit but it's all part of the game. I plan to take it slowly, and strengthen my lower back and core along the way to try and prevent injuries.
