^^^ Makes me wish I had snagged a drum of 12,500 rounds of M855 in the past. Think the best deal I recall was $4600 shipped. The 420 round cans for $179 we're almost as cheap so I went with those and just kept stacking them.

Don't recall if it was Wideners, Graf, Natchez, or Brownells that had the drums.

When it's in stock, Palmetto State Armory usually has the 420 round cans @ a reasonable price.

Apparently a Venice, Fla. reloader's house caught fire (while they were "hand filling rounds of ammunition") and it went up in flames. The news says there was ~100 lbs of powder involved and 10,000 rounds of ammunition. The news idiots also say they had oxygen and acetylene tanks but these didn't go 'splody.

I'd be curious to know how this started, and particularly if cancer sticks were involved. Definitely smacks of some basic safety shortcomings that what I presume to be their entire stash of powder could somehow be involved.

BTW, if you haven't seen it, SAAMI did testing and determined that unconfined cartridges detonating from the heat of a fire DO NOT pose a serious threat to firefighters. The bullets tend to be so slow-moving that they bounce off the firefighter's protective gear.

RANGE DAY!! Heading out to zero these two bad boys in. Curious to see how the Holosun holds up to the Eotech. Love the idea of their self charging battery and it’s overall battery life.
Love the other Eotechs I have but they just chew through batteries. This XPS2 is new to me though.

Anyone have any experience with Holosun? The reviews seem great (at least on this 510C model). The review were also great on the Romeo 3 and 4 too and I hated them.

First-time buyers fuel pandemic-related surge in gun sales

... this year's sales spike is different because it's being driven by a rise in first-time gun buyers, especially among African Americans and women.

About 40% of gun sales in the first four months of the year were made by first-time buyers — far higher than the annual average of 24% over the past two decades, according to the National Shooting Sports Foundation, a trade association that tracks gun sales and analyzes industry trends.

Gun sales among Black Americans are up 58% through September, according to the NSSF. Mark Oliva, the foundation's director of public affairs, said the rise in Black gun ownership is unprecedented.

"We've never seen a year-over-year increase that large in African-American gun buyers," Oliva told CNN Business. "It is the largest demographic increase we've seen. People that are buying guns today look a whole lot less like me and a whole lot more like the rest of America," added Oliva, who is White.
Gun merchants and advocacy groups have noticed the trend as well...

And they thought it would be a nice present to give President Biden to take a swipe and the legality of the pistol "brace," ergo the initial proclamation on the Honey Badger. Then somebody accidentally had a rational thought and came to the realization that if Biden doesn't win, with that decision they might be setting themselves up for a major post-election ass-whuppin'. So they gave the decision a 60-day stay of execution, giving them opportunity to rescind the original ruling if by some strange quirk of fate Trump keeps his job.

If you're talking about the FN 5.7, I don't own one, but have shot one several different times after they first hit the market. They're fun to shoot, but the ammo was a tad pricey.

I'm kind of a cheapskate, so I tend to stick to the calibers I'm already setup to reload or ammo that I have a decent stash of.

That’s exactly the cartridge I’m referring to...the 5.7x28 (FN). Ok cool, agreed on price. It’s definitely a tad expensive and tough to find (but shit, it’s all expensive and hard to find right now). Thought it would be a fun round for the range or even a personal defense round for the truck (with the right grain).

Mostly just thought it was something different and easy to get back on target with subsequent shots because of the minimal recoil.

Fun was what I was looking for though...valid points on cost and availability. Hmmmmmm

I have had an FN 5.7x28 pistol, and I spent a lot of time studying on pairing it with a PS90 or an AR (rifle or pistol) in 5.7 so I'd have both short and long guns in a common cartridge for HD/bug-out.

The important thing to remember (IMHO) about the 5.7x28 is that it was created for a select-fire PDW with a 10" bbl and 50-rd magazines. Which sounds to me like they were acknowledging that this was a weapon that was reliant on high volumes of fire.

I'm leery of a 5.56 with less than a 14.5" bbl because that cartridge owes so much of its terminal performance to fragmentation, and the M855 and M193 rounds have a minimum fragmentation velocity of about 2700 fps. Which gives you precious little wiggle-room when fired from a short barrel. That's exactly why the USMC stayed faithful to the 20" bbl M-16 until late in 2015, when they finally decided to replace it with an 14.5" bbl M4-pattern carbine. Which is also why I think the 5.7x28 is a better candidate for an AR pistol (because the 5.7x28 was created with 10" bbl performance in mind). And I'd also expect potential accuracy to be better -- especially "follow-up" shots -- because the recoil is so mild.

If you get an AR-pattern pistol that uses the 50-rd FN mag and add a binary trigger, IMHO that's getting awfully close to the functionality of the full-auto FN P90 without the NFA price tag and hassle. A binary trigger will let you run beta-dumps as fast as your wallet can stand them and also makes nice, tight "controlled pairs" much easier than a 'conventional' trigger.

The 5.7 ARs that use FN mags are a little funky because they eject straight down through what Stoner intended to be the magazine well but I find the AR57 easier to maneuver in close quarters than an AR with a 30-rd STANAG mag hanging out of the mag well.

In the end I sold the FN pistol (even thought I'd stockpiled >4000 rounds of ammunition when it was ~20¢ a round) not because I didn't think I could count on a partner 5.7 rifle or carbine to do the business but because I'd sooner have 18 rounds of 9mm (in a Glock 17) than the FN and three more rounds of 5.7.

I went ahead and picked it up today with the intention of mostly plinking but also having the option to stick it in a BOB in case a light weight shoulder fired option is needed. I love my 9mm carbine but honestly have been intrigued by this cartridge for a long time. Had the 1200 rounds not been included in the deal, I would’ve passed. The previous owner also installed a law tactical folding brace on it, so it fits pretty easily wherever you want it. Definitely fun to have and certainly something I didn’t need. Would take my G17 and with my MAK 90 or my DD 5.56 with an 18” barrel any day.
I think the wife will have fun with it too and I’m not sure how long we’ll have access to these types of “pistols”.

I’ll post pics in 3 days when the frigging back ground check is finally cleared. Biden might rival Obama as the firearms salesman of the year...

No, it’s actually a Norinco. Has a milled receiver and has been one of the most reliable firearms I’ve ever owned. The cheaper the ammo, the better.

The Maadi’s are beautiful though and tough to find. The Egyptians did that the right way. I’ve passed on a few over the years and kick myself now. The only other AK’s in my collection are WASR-10’s and they don’t have near the quality. They do go bang every time though

I snagged a Maadi back in the mid 90s or so. It seems to eat about any 7.62x39 ammo I've found. The sights are a tad lacking, but so is my eyesight. Fun to shoot, though.

The mid 90’s is when I got my Norinco too. I think I paid 150$ for it. They go between 800-1k now. Same with the Maadi’s. Most of the Maadi’s I’ve seen had the nicer furniture and a more traditional pistol grip and hand guard (is yours this way?).

The Norinco came with this god awful “thumb hole stock” (often called the butthole stock), a filed down bayonet lug and a couple other modifications that made it a “sporting” rifle rather than an “assault rifle” (good old Clinton). Like yours the sights leave something to be desired but it was never meant to be a precision shooter. Load them up with steel cased ammo and then watch them do their job.

You could get kits though and convert it full auto in a flash.

I’ve seen some Maadi’s that are priced well over a thousand dollars. Hold on to it!

If only I knew then that these sub 200$ AK’s would be so highly sought after and that they’d maintain every bit of their functionality, I would’ve loaded up on them. My MAK 90, was my first purchase into that world and I remember the day I bought. I thought it was SO cool! I would field strip it and admire it every week, lol.

I’ve used that lesson to fuel some of my current purchases...telling myself “who the hell knows what the future holds”.

I have some “fancy” military style long guns in my safe, but I’m telling you...as far as something I would trust my life on to go bang every time and knowing I could always find an abundance of ammo (brass, steel or whatever) it would be hard for me not to grab that MAK if I could only bring one (same would go if I had a Maadi).

Nah, mine has the bunghole style stock, too. Laminated wood stock and foregrip. I honestly don't recall if it has the lug on it or not. It was probably neutered to comply with Clinton's insanity Think I gave like a buck eighty for it and a big ass wooden case of the "corrosive" primer ammo for $65?

Picked up a stainless Colt Officers ACP @ the same show. Bought a King's Gun Works guide rod setup to replace the crappy factory tab for the recoil spring plug, took it to work and milled off .05" required to install the setup. Turned out to be one of the most ergonomic ( for me) pistols I've ever purchased. Only downside is it takes an Allen wrench to strip it down now.

I rarely...I mean rarely.... get rid of firearms. I got rid of a Colt Commander in .38 Super and regret it every day.

Plenty of great options. .308, 30.06, 6.5 creedmore, 30-30, 6.8 SPC, 5.56, .300 win mag

Honestly any of those would work great for hogs. They’re sneaky little bastards, really smart and an amazing sense of smell. Stealth is key.

I would focus more on the optics if looking at a package deal and get the better scope/glass.

The last few times I've gone, I've used an M98 Mauser. Shoots an 8mm cartridge that's similar to a 30 06. In fact, I make cases by resizing 30 06 cases for it and then using a hacksaw to cut off the excess. It gives more than enough firepower while not having too much kick and it's easy to wield (plus they're reasonably priced).

If he's in europe, 6.5x55 is probably the most common cartridge that has enough power to ethically take down a boar.
