I was asked to join a new friend of mine for some wild boar hunting. Apparently I have to go through some course and then some other hops to get a rifle but anyways. Any recommendations for a good rifle for wild boar hunting and a, if I can get it, over the top scope?

Plenty of great options. .308, 30.06, 6.5 creedmore, 30-30, 6.8 SPC, 5.56, .300 win mag

Honestly any of those would work great for hogs. They’re sneaky little bastards, really smart and an amazing sense of smell. Stealth is key.

I would focus more on the optics if looking at a package deal and get the better scope/glass.

The last few times I've gone, I've used an M98 Mauser. Shoots an 8mm cartridge that's similar to a 30 06. In fact, I make cases by resizing 30 06 cases for it and then using a hacksaw to cut off the excess. It gives more than enough firepower while not having too much kick and it's easy to wield (plus they're reasonably priced).
