About 8 months ago we were talking on a Sunday about guns. He was telling me he and one of his friends were talking about a .410 lever action shotgun. Dad never knew they made a 410 lever action. I looked in up on my cell and sure enough they did. I called my buddy who owns a gun store and he carried them. Henry makes them. Well dad for some reason wanted one. So he gave me 1200 bucks and I bought one for him a couple weeks later.

Fast forward to Yesterday, sitting there talking to him, he said I got something to give you and dont argue with me about it. He goes to the spare bedroom and brings back that shotgun still wrapped up and boxed. lol I asked him why he even bought it. He said he bought it to show his friend, who btw died before he could take it over to show him.
So your dad gave you the money for the gun, you went to the store and bought it and had the background check in your name and then gave it to your father?

    Isn't that a "strawman purchase?"

speaking of shotguns, i always wanted an over/under derringer chambered in 12 GA. a 12 GA revolver would be sweet too, too bad they dont make anything like that.

but i could get a mossberg shockwave. on the other hand my scrawny ass needs more gear

    lol

"Federal or NC law does not prohibit you from gifting a firearm to a relative or friend that lives in your home state. However, it is a federal felony to transfer a firearm to someone you know or reasonably suspect who can’t legally own one."

First, my dad can legally own a firearm. Second, at this point in his life, he cant even lift this shotgun up to fire it if he wanted to.

Except that isn't what you told us. You told us that your father gave you the money to purchase a gun for him. Then you did.

That's a straw purchase. The fact that he ended up giving you the gun at a time a few weeks afterward is irrelevant to the point that you made a straw purchase for him.
