Much of the problem lies in their lack of assimilation. When immigrants came in through Ellis Island, there was an understanding that they would adopt the values and customs of the US. Not only that, they were expected to be proficient in speaking, reading, and writing English. "They" call it multiculturalism, I call it factionalism.
