Isn't pride one of the seven deadly sins?

hmm i will prob catch heat for this

i have always said since i was in like 5th grade that i feel no patriotiism for my country.my school teachers use to yell at me , i guess, because i was different from the robotic, " i love america" drones
do i love america?nah , not really. do i appreciate the freedoms and opportunities i have here?WITHOUT A DOUBT!!
it's nice to wake up without tanks rolling down my street, i can own my own business, not be shot for my beliefs, and all that good stuff.
proud though?no way! i think we are just as corrupt as an other country in this world in our own ways. we take better care of foreigners, other country's starving, diseased, and dying, we let our children die in wars for our own greed, **** i could go on and on. so no i am more proud to be a New Yorker than an American.
it's JMO and i mean to offend no one with the way i have always felt. please don't come down on me for being honest with you and telling my true feelings. i don't want this to be a thread bashing each other

    I agree entirely . . .
I'm lots of things that other folks take "pride" in . . . white, anglo, gay, American, Vietnam era veteran (never got out of Texas, though), Texan, etc. But so what? I don't think anyone has an obligation to be proud of what you're born into, or for being a member of a large group. We are what we are, and that's enough.
I take pride in acts of courage, things I value, worthwhile battles fought. That's what real pride should be reserved for.

I'm proud of my ancestors that died here and overseas to give me the life I live today. Its far from an obligation, just something I was born with.

    Toby Keith said it best

    American Girls and American Guys
We'll always stand up and salute
    We'll always recognize
When we see Old Glory Flying
There's a lot of men dead
So we can sleep in peace at night
When we lay down our head

My daddy served in the army
Where he lost his right eye
But he flew a flag out in our yard
Until the day that he died
He wanted my mother, my brother, my sister and me
To grow up and live happy
In the land of the free.

Now this nation that I love
    Has fallen under attack
A mighty sucker punch came flyin' in
    From somewhere in the back
Soon as we could see clearly
    Through our big black eye
[B] Man, we lit up your world
    Like the 4th of July

    Hey Uncle Sam
Put your name at the top of his list
    And the Statue of Liberty
    Started shakin' her fist
    And the eagle will fly
    Man, it's gonna be hell
    When you hear Mother Freedom
    Start ringin' her bell
And it feels like the whole wide world is raining down on you
Brought to you Courtesy of the Red White and Blue [B]

    Justice will be served
    And the battle will rage
    This big dog will fight
    When you rattle his cage
And you'll be sorry that you messed with
    The U.S. of A.
'Cause we'll put a boot in your ass
    It's the American way

    Hey Uncle Sam
Put your name at the top of his list
    And the Statue of Liberty
    Started shakin' her fist
    And the eagle will fly
    Man, it's gonna be hell
    When you hear Mother Freedom
    Start ringin' her bell
And it feels like the whole wide world is raining down on you
Brought to you Courtesy of the Red White and Blue!
