zoloft is known as an antidepressant because that is how it is approved by the FDA; every new indication costs bazillions of dollars in research though, so it's not always worth it for the company to go for that when it can be prescribed without that.
these other uses are known as "off label". zoloft is an ssri anti-d that has many potential uses.
i've given it to lots of guys who are irritable. many of them feel it saved their relationships because they are so angry and often feel like ripping someone's head off.
i've given it as high as 300mg per day, 200mg QD is not very uncommon. i would only stop at 100mg if there was no effect at all, but if someone feels some improvement on 100mg but not totally i'll go higher.
